I recently bought myself a DJI Phantom 3 pro after flying my friends and wanting one for myself. For now I got registered for personal use only so that I can get flying, but I would like to go through the steps to be able to legally use it for some of my wedding photography and possibly other commercial photography as well at some point. Ive read alot online about the process to get registered and legal, but everywhere I read says something a bit different. Has anyone here gone through this process recently that could give me some insight on exactly what is needed? I know you have to take a written test to get a drone certificate and obviously register it as commercial instead of personal use, but I'm a bit confused on what all steps need to be taken. Being that the rules changed a few months ago, anyone gone through this recently? Appreciate any help/info those of you with experience can share with me, thanks! feel free to share your drone photos as well! Excited to get shooting with it.

You need to tell us where you live and work because the rules can be very different in different places.

I live in South Dakota, wanting to use it for some outdoor wedding photography and maybe do real estate photography or something of that nature down the road. It would be for my own photography business

Study for and take the Part 107 remote pilot certification test. Then register your aircraft. There are some online courses to help with the test prep if you google "part 107". See:
