Has anyone priced the repair costs between Canon with the 20% CPS discount (Gold) vs local repair shops?

I need a sensor cleaning (badly), and that is $45 locally. CPS Gold will cost me $100, and allow me to get this issue (https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1467909) repaired at a discount. I'd also like to get my 70-200mm IS 2.8 Ver II looked at: the ass end gasket is decaying and I think the zoom barrel feels a little chunky peanut butter instead of smooth and creamy. I think CPS would be a good value if the prices are usually on par but since Canon wont give price estimates over the phone I'm inclined to support a local business that wont do that.

Sensor cleaning is $100? What else are they doing? I've brought my camera into Canon's New Jersey facility, which is close to my home, and the last sensor cleaning I had about 18 months ago was around $40. I know prices might have gone up a bit, but this seems odd. Why would CPS charge your twice as much for the same service as a Canon facility?

I knew that, but. I guess I read your post incorrectly. Didnt realize this would be your free cleaning as a new member if you joined. I thought you meant that you were already a CPS member and it would cost you a $100 for additional cleanings. I assume you would join CPS for more reasons then the initial free cleaning though. And, you get the nifty camera strap ;-)a

Yes, the question is basically if the $55 premium ($100 CPS membership over $45 to just get it cleaned locally) is worth the savings in the 20% repair discount.
