you nailed it. I would suggest figuring out specifically what you want to do first, then ask here for the PS tool to use. From there figure out how to use the tool/process but don't let your brain get stuck into recreating someone else's recipe. Sure you can copy the recipe to get the results, but make sure you understand the process and what it is doing so that you can customize it not only for your tastes, but for the individual, the photo, and desired results.
you are clearly putting in the work ... and seeing the results ... of learning to capture the image, if you some work into post processing you'll see results there too. It's nice to have fresh blood on the critique corner :P especially when they really put in the effort, don't feel like you can't ask processing questions here to.
