Sorry in this day and age of convenience shopping yet economic downward trends and political uproar, religious holidays have no place in the retail industry. Precisely why Amazon is such a mega success. Or even eBAY. Or KEH. So many choices. Take KEH for example. I have no problem giving them money even for a used item if B&H or Adorama elects to be closed. Again money lost. Sometimes I think B&H and Adorama are owned by the same parent company. They both choose the same part time business model.

And clearly, for you, that is the decision that works. I feel differently, and will support businesses that try to balance work and down time for their employees. Neither of us is "Right". A 24/7 world is just not that attractive to me.

I think the fact that, as the title of the thread mentions, this is the biggest (ie: most successful) camera store in the world, would prove the theory that this impacts their business in a negative way to be an incorrect assumption at best.

They are the biggest, and sell the most, and clearly they are doing something right.

I imagine that such a proven successful establishment is unlikely to take business advice from a minority of internet pundits, and less likely to have their religious practices dictated by the same.

P.S. i live in a largely catholic state, and MANY businesses are either closed, or have limited hours on Sundays. The camera shop down the road is closed Sundays.

I get ya. No worries. I however have lived in a 24/7/365 world working in the Railroad industry for nearly 40 years. Guess I figure if I don't get weekends, holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, kids recitals, etc... off why should anyone else.

See, I look at is differently. Sure they are the biggest and the best but that does not negate the fact they are giving up additional sales electing to operate the way they do. Status quo is not good enough. More more more.

First, this is far from a novel post. People have complained about BH holidays for years. BH is one of the finest businesses of any kind there is. Honest, great service, a dizzying array of inventory, a store that is better than any well oiled machine, a website far and above most any other, including an app that works very well.

They also take great pains to notify every customer well in advance of upcoming closures. It is plastered all over their website. They hand out flyers at the door as you walk in and when you pick up your products at the counter. They take the form of calendars carefully and clearly laying out, well in advance, upcoming closures.

BH and Adorama are not owned by the same people. But they do practice the same religion and thus are closed at the same time.

I just found a website www.qualitybath.com (external link). I'm adding an addition and new kitchen. They are the BH of the kitchen and bath fixture world. They too practice their religion and are closed during Jewish holidays. In fact, on the sabbath you can't even view their website.

These type threads IMHO are nothing more than thinly disguised anti Semitic rants and I for one am sick of them and surprised and disappointed in Jake for not calling it like it is.

If I thought the OP was being anti Semitic, I would have taken action.

After careful reading I chose to give the benefit of doubt based on the OP's non combative easy going follow ups to people taking him to task.

There are plenty of cases where it is clear when something "is what it is" but IMHO this is not one of them.

I don't like to assume the worst in people based on a few typed words on the internet.
I like to see people given the benefit of doubt when things are in a grey area.

Perhaps my black and white line is in a different place than yours,. and maybe yours is more just, I don't know.
But then part of my job here is to try my best to call it like I see it, while not seeing things as black and white all the time.

And with that I will close this thread.
