Photoshoot in my daughter's room with Canon strobes.

Hi guys,

I like to share few images from my latest photoshoot, I held in my daughter's room and using only Canon strobes - mixture of 430 ex and 580ex's. The beautiful model is the barista from my local Nero coffee. I asked her if she will be willing to participate in a photosession,as I have notice that she holds some good modelling potential.

Here is another one.

I really like the series but they seem a little under exposed to me...

I love the mood of low key lighting, but number 2 is too dark.

Yep, she's a great looking model. Great pics but just a tad too dark for me. I understand the mood you're going for though.

Love the shots but why are you using your daughter's room? Seems strange to bring a model into her room.

Is the blue-tinted light made by gels or did you bounce off the wall?

@flowrider I used the room because is the only room in my flat that has, just enough, space to do something like this. Studio was out of the question as I don't have the money to spend on one. My daughter is away studding, so it was a good opportunity to use her half empty room
@frugivore For the blue colour - first I have setup my camera WB to fluorescent (i think, i'm a bit more familiar with the icon than the exact name), then, on the model right - there is the door for the room (I had it open) where I setup one bear flash with blue gel, very low power, bouncing at the ceiling of the room. On her left I had a beauty dish with blue gel, used as a rim light and also one over head light with blue too. Now keep in mind that the space we were shooting is small, so I've got light bouncing all over the place - the one from the beauty dish and the overhead, this was also the reason to have the flash, bouncing at the ceiling, setup on very low power.

Buy the way for the darker look - yes it is a low key darker mood, but also I have noticed that the image is displayed differently on a different platforms, for example you can have a look at this places - by far FB has the worst image compression.

And on my monitor, while editing, is completely different story.

Here is the same image, this time with slight improvement over the brightness in post - although. I think it can take on that, initial, dark mood.

I like it better. Still feels to dark for me though.

She certainly makes a good model considering she's just a girl you found in a coffee shop.

These are great photos but I agree with the comment already made that these are under exposed. You need to be adding a good stop of light to these to brighten them up.

Though lovely, tad on the dark side?

Personally i like all of them, but maybe without hat she attracts more attention (in my opinion)

This looks dark to me.
In my view low key means that, as you've attempted, the predominate tone is dark. That said, there has to be something in the image that defines white. In this image it could be the white of her eyes or a specular highlight on her nose ring. Both appear to be at least a stop low. I'd also, to help define the low key, like to see some definition in the shadows, particularly her dress.
