So I shot some senior photos the other day and asked the client if I could use some of the photos on my website (portfolio). These images were some of my best senior shots yet so I definitely wanted to showcase them. The only issue is that the client is a foster and by law can not have her name revealed on sites such as mine and can also not be identified as a foster. So my question is how would you title the album or group of photos? On my website I have stuff lined out such as: "Brown Wedding, MacGregor Wedding, Sam and Cameron Engagements, Nikki and Tyler Engagements, Melissa Senior Photos, etc....so how would you list this set I'm talking about? Does "Jane Doe Senior Photos" seem cheesy or weird? "Anonymous Senior Photos?"

Just throwing an idea here....could you name the location instead of her name? For example, "River's Edge Park Senior Photos", "Downtown Senior Photos", etc.

In a portfolio, why name any of the seniors? Calling her "Jane Doe" does raise questions, as would captioning this student's photos differently in any way from the rest of them. Maybe you could do something like what daystar suggests for all of them. Or call the whole section "Local Senior Photos," maybe, depending on your format, and omit individual captions?

Ask the client to come up with a "stage name" I have several galleries where the models actual name is not used but instead a stage name or made up name. No one but you and your client ever know its not that persons real name.

Also when it comes to seniors just make a single gallery and put a couple of each session in there and don't use any names at all.

I work with foster kids in California. I can't speak for Washington, but in all likelihood, she has an attorney appointed and you can consult with them to be sure. Im assuming the client is under 18 (at 18, she is an adult and can consent) but close to 18 being a senior.

Here, assuming appropriate consent (including consult with the attorney) we can post and use a first name. The prohibition is against the use of identifying information - such as full name, address, school they attend, etc.

Again to be sure, contact her court appointed attorney and/or legal guardian (if one has been appointed). Feel free to PM me if I can help with further info...

Gotcha. So instead of having a page for senior photos with links to each persons individual gallery, maybe just have a collage of all the senior shots I've taken together? If you click the website in my bio, then go to Weddings, that's how I was planning on doing the senior photo section, but I'm not set on that style yet.

The weddings on your site each have a ton of photos. Wouldn't a senior session result in picking just one shot for the yearbook? (Customs were very different when I was in school.) So each senior client would be represented by one image, not a whole page of images. You could make a page of senior images like the page that each wedding has, without names. Maybe that's what you meant. I think it would work well.

Incidentally, speaking of names, I found it odd that each wedding is identified with one surname, like "Brown Wedding." Double billing is more common, isn't it? "Brown-Smith Wedding" or "James and Sandra." Both members of the couple are principals in the ceremony.

"Engagements" on the main page is misspelled.

I would suggest rather than having individual galleries for all of your shoots, instead have a slideshow on your "Events", "portraits" & "Weddings" pages, and include a mixture of 20 or so of your very-best images in there. Your website is best used to attract clients, and research shows that the more clicking they have to do to get to your portfolio, the less chances they will actually bother. What's more, those that do finally get to see some pictures, then have to go backwards and forwards between pages to see different examples of your work. Taking that further, you can use your home page to show your 20 best images from all genre's as you'd be amazed how many people judge you based on that first impression. Have a read about SEO and traffic behaviour on the web and you'll be pretty shocked at how little people actually bother to fully read a website.

In this busy day and age a lot of people won't bother sadly. Also, because you only have three galleries in each section, it kinda looks like you haven't got much experience, and you've only done three shoots. If you jumble a selection of images together in a slideshow, even if you don't have a large amounts of shoots under your belt you can still show off all of your potential in the best possible way.

If you want to have individual galleries for client's photos, then create a password protected area where they can view ALL of the delivered images, and then they can share that password with whoever they want.

As for the names, for the above reasons names aren't really an issue.

Good advice...I may revamp my website soon and shrink down the sections...
