I've never really done a landscape and probably won't do much of them, but I saw something that I thought might be interesting and I got this.

Thoughts? Is there enough visual interest? Keep or toss?

Toss. I don't find the subject (a very distant house) to be interesting. I don't understand why you can't shoot more landscapes. TONS of interesting landscape subjects in and around NYC.

yeah, I gots some stuff.

I wouldn't mind to have it as the desktop image for a while. Sea of dark trees with hint of the white house.

I really, really like this image, Silverstein!

The texture of the leafy foliage on all of the treetops is wonderful! And of course the composition is effective, depicting the home as being lost amongst the relative enormity of the surrounding forest.......really provides a 'sense of place'.

If I had been there, and seen this scene, then I definitely would have thought that it was a very worthwhile thing to make an image of, and would have spent some time photographing it. It really is an interesting juxtaposition of the 'Hand of Man' set within the context of 'Nature, Wild and Free'.

My only nit-picks would be:

1: perhaps brighten the image a little - I really like the textures and colours of the leaves, but the dark exposure keeps me from enjoying this texture to its fullest

2: the house looks like it is, perhaps, a bit off plumb and level....I mean, it looks like the image needs to be rotated ever so slightly clockwise in order to straighten it out.....when the chimney is exactly straight up and down, then you've got it right!

3: I appreciate the 'off in the corner' placement of the house, which is the image's focal point.....but perhaps it is a bit too deep in the corner? I think that just a little more of the trees above the home would be an even more effective composition.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Thanks! I'm glad you got the point of what I was trying to do. The subject is not the house, but rather, the house offers a stark juxtaposition between it and the surrounding nature. You can read more into it if you wish, but for me it was particularly striking because I was standing on a farmer's pumpkin patch, where the owners rely on the earth for sustenance, whereas the owners of the large house on the hill are very likely much more separated and isolated from nature, even though it completely engulfs their house.

I didn't think to pay attention to the chimney, thanks. Unfortunately the house sits almost at the top of the treeline and that's as far as I can go before I hit blown out sky lol. I think I may have brightend it up after I posted it here, although I definitely want it to look like dusk.

It has definitely grown on me.

I like this one as well.

I've shot the same kind of thing as there are a great number of similar settings in the mountains of North Carolina.

I wouldn't brighten this one any more but I might experiment with the colors in the trees. It looks like you could pull up some additional color in places....I hope it's ok but I gave it a try. If this is objectionable to you just say so and I will remove it.

Interesting shot, the colors of the leaves are just a bit muted. But others have expressed it more eloquently than I.

It seems there is a slight vignette to the image, or maybe some lens fall off. This creates a brighter center which is counter productive to the house pulling your eye to the edge.

It's a bit boring but the colors are very nice. I feel like I'm not digging the focal point.

Not bad, I think it would have worked better if the house was a little further from the edge of the photo. Not centered of course, but a little closer to the center. You may have been trying to exclude something just out of the frame on the top and couldn't do that, but if possible, I think that would mean less of the photo was so uniform, the trees that is.

Well, if you aaaaaask :]

I would say "toss". Like it is now, the perspective looks screwed. You should be much higher here. Helicopter and reshoot?

I would have expected a kinder, gentler critique from a nice and fluffy dude.
