I just got back from a trip to Offbeat Mara in the Mara conservancy where you are allowed to go off road, get out of the vehicle and do game drives at night.
I hope the photos give you a good idea what it is like out there at night with very little idea just where the critters are coming from.

Thanks guys a couple more in the night. In the fist one he is getting very close to us in fact he got so close I stopped taking photos. In the second shot he was either sniffing for game or for the females that were close by.

Very cool. That guy looks hungry!

I remember our vehicle breaking down on a night game drive in Botswana. Scary stuff but very exciting at the same time.

Thanks guys, yes scary indeed. I realized after the fact that when they got to within a few feet I was sitting like a statue and holding my breath, good job they did not stay long...I probably would have suffocated.
Yes hungry, they were out hunting but could not get photos. When thy went for the kill there were lions going in all directions and the prey was even worse.

Leopards really love to make photographing them difficult. But to me they are the coolest of the big costs.

Cheetahs on the hand always seem to be out in the open.

A couple more Not my best but...the cheetah I thought I had every thing right but obviously not. The lion was so close I did not want to use the flash so I went with just the red spotting light. I-G if you like birds I started a thread in the birds section.

Thank you CyberDyne Still not sure what I did wrong on the cheetah photo shutter speed was 1/2000 and I think the focus point was on the front paw but the photo is soft. This one is a little better.
