Has anyone had problems with KEH Outlet on eBay?

Just wondered. I bid on a Buy-It-Now RRS L-bracket for my 7DII from KEH Outlet a week ago Sunday. I got a shipping notice the next day with a FedEx tracking number. I was surprised and happy that it estimated the delivery to be Wednesday. Wednesday came and no FedEx. So I called FedEx and they said they had received the shipping label information but not the package and recommended that I contact the shipper. When I logged onto the KEH Outlet website, it indicated that they were open until 9pm so I gave them a call. The person who answered checked the tracking number and seemed surprised that FedEx didn't have a record of the shipment. He said he would call me the next day since there was nothing he could do that evening. I get an email from KEH Outlet Thursday afternoon stating that they have refunded my purchase. I also received a message from eBay with the following explanation:

kehoutlet recently opened a cancel transaction case for an item you recently purchased: Really Right Stuff B7D2 L Plate Set for Canon 7D Mark II.
Reason for cancel transaction request: The seller says that you have returned or will be returning the item for a refund.

I did not cancel the transaction because I would be returning the item. I indicated so in the comments section of the eBay message. Not that it will do any good.

Yes, I got a refund but that doesn't help me attach my camera to my tripod for a trip I'm taking this week. I found it rather suspicious that they had another 7DII L-bracket up for auction about 10 days prior (using the same picture--same dust spots in the same place). I just have a funny feeling about this transaction and wondered if anyone else has done business with them. Their feedback was so-so, but I wasn't buying a camera or lens; just a bracket, so I thought I'd be safe. I'm really hoping that the package shows up at my door and it just fell through the cracks in the system, but I'm not holding my breath.

KEH is a very reputable outfit. Give them another call. It sounds like something screwy happened, but I can assure you whatever it was, it wasn't done on purpose.

I'm guessing they did indeed sell that item at a previous auction and it was mistakenly auctioned again and only discovered when they went to fill your order that it wasn't there. They probably didn't have an option of checking a box on eBay that said "Screw-up. We actually don't have this item anymore", so they checked one that would get them out of the mess and get you your money back. They should have contacted you, but I don't think that's their strong suit and something they should work on.

As you know, their business is selling items they purchase from private parties used. Therefore, these things are going to happen since they can't just grab another one off the shelf and ship to you. I think they offer a great service so I personally give them a little slack here and there, but that's just me. I can understand if you don't feel the same way.

I never thought of the scenario that they sold the item earlier and didn't realize it and listed it again. That sounds feasible. I'm sure I was posting out of frustration since I needed it this week. Their lack of communication and lame excuse didn't help. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt but surely won't buy from them on eBay again, just from the lack of customer service aspect. I do appreciate their quick refund though.

Thanks for your thoughts on this.

Agreed. I've not bought anything from their eBay sales, only from their webpage and I've been very happy from that angle. Your information is helpful to me as well as I may avoid their eBay sales in the future and continue dealing with them through their website only. Cheers.

Never have problems with them and their return policy is excellent. In another words, they won't nickel and dime you for every little thing you must do for the returning the products.

Another huge fan of KEH here. I had a mishap with them once and they took care of it despite the fact that it wasn't even their fault. Keep an eye out for coupons. I purchased some stuff a few months back using a 15% off site-wide code.

The last line of my original post read: I'm really hoping that the package shows up at my door and it just fell through the cracks in the system, but I'm not holding my breath.

Guess what just showed up at my door! I'll give KEH Outlet a call tomorrow so they can complete the transaction. Right in time for my trip. My prayers have been answered.

Edit: Well, almost perfect. One of the Allen wrenches is missing, but I'm sure I can find one around the house.
