Headed to Conowingo Maryland this am for 2-3 days of Photographing the Eagles @ the dam. As soon as I tried to focus on an Eagle I

Immediately detected an issue, The 1DXMK2 would NOT focus properly on small terns or Eagles 100-150 Yds away and if it did it would immediately fail to track and lose focus. This was not an issue for my 1DX, my 1dMK4 or any other body

I have ever put on my Canon 600MM f/4 V2. It was a frustrating morning. I was told the AF points have been enlarged could that be the issue?

Thankfully I had my 5Dmk4 with me and that had no issues whatsoever.

Any one else with similar issues? Im headed to Canon CPS in the morning...

I haven't seen this, but I don't have the 600. With the 100-400 II, I don't see any focusing differences between my 1DX2 and my 5D4.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I dropped it off at CPS today, my contact there the Tech immediately said I know what it is took the front cover off and fidgeted inside by the mirror. He said he'll get back to me by Friday.

Since you indicated the tech knew what it was immediately, did he happen to share any specifics with you?

received the body this Monday and it's focusing like a champ. The tech was out on Monday so I couldn't get an answer as to what the issue will be, once I find out further I'll post a followup!

Here is a follow up: the Camera again Stopped focusing properly.

Its is now sporadically focusing properly, Images taken over the last 3 days 85 % are completely soft and useless.

Opening the images in CPP shows the focus point directly on where it should be but the images are extremely soft or completely OOF.

Back to Canon CPS in the morning, and now I have been reading of the same issues by others on some forums

:(

Good info. Thinking about getting the 5D4 and I have that lens. I sold my 5D3 and still have a 7D2. I can get 10 FPS with my 7D2 by usually only shoot 7 to 8 which is plenty for my purposes so the 5D4 should work well. I still need to play with some birding shots and cropping with 5D4 files before I decide.
