An interesting new approach to camera design

Some of the ideas look valid (b&w + colour sensor for resolution, multiple longer focal length shots blended to simulate a wider focal length, different exposures to get a higher DR). I assume the processing will be the killer, at least for a while. Will be interesting to see where it goes though.

So something not much smaller than a G15 that probably produces images no better, is not a phone replacement and costs more than an entry level DSLR with a twin lens kit (which would probably kill this in all respects other than size and weight)

Interesting design but unless it becomes a cellular phone replacement and reduces cost I think it would struggle in the market.

I thought the comment about 600mm lenses all coating $12k was a laugh. Forgetting about the 150-600's that have been around for years

That's not really the gist I got from the article - in fact, the point of the design seems to be about achieving high resolution, high DR images with the potential for shallow DOF, from a relatively small device.

Note that I'm not saying it does produce such images; only that it appears to be the goal.

I also thought the writer didnt think of the sigma or tamron 150-600.

Still, a very interesting approach. If it delivers what they stated in this article i think its a pretty cool thing. You cant know, this might be the next step towards new possibilities.

The thing im wondering about is how they manage it to avoid parallax problems due to every sensor/lens pair sitting on a different part of the device.

And it sure is more interesting than the camera phone that kodak just announced lol

That was addressed at some point in the article that the OP linked to. I just forget exactly where it was, and right now I don't feel like re-reading the entire article just to find the part that briefly mentions that. But it is in there (although it is just mentioned briefly, not discussed or explained).

My point is that as it is not a cellular phone it is always going to be something that you'll need to take with you in addition to your phone. So it's not a phone camera replacement. At 21mm thick it's more a compact camera competitor and look at how that market's going.

The author's description doesn't really bode well for better IQ than what slim compact cameras on the market already offer. f/2.4 isn't all that fast when a number of its competitors already go down to f/2.0.

Finally the cost is just bonkers. I get that there's lots of cool interesting tech in there but that price? Just wow.

Like I said, it's interesting but that's it.
