I just picked up the 5D4 a few days ago and I've been extremely pleased with it. Well until an hour ago when I mounted the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art. When shooting wide open, there are distinct circular bands in the captured image. These bands dissipate as I stop down and disappear by the time I reach f/2.0.

What am I missing? Is there some setting on the 5D4 that I forgot to change? I've never seen this on my 5D2 with this lens. I tried other lenses on the 5D4 wide open (Canon 50mm @ f/1.8 and Samyang 85mm @ f/1.4) and I don't get these bands. Only with this one combination.

First image at f/1.4.
Second image at f/1.8

Exposure in manual mode. No filter. No hood. SOOC except for resizing.
Am I the only one getting this?

The effect can be seen on the LCD during Live Viewing.

Thanks in advance for any advice on this.

This is a known issue. There was a compatibility warning issued by Sigma but I'm fuzzy on the details.

This is what I found. There is a filter you turn off

Periscope Filters?!?

When I posted my answer I wasn't sure exactly which option you had to turn off(wasn't in front of my mark IV), so I figured it was safe to say to just turn them all off.

here is the thread on FB page that addressed it

I think it has to do with in camera lens corrections. Turn it off and you're fine. I think.

OK - many thanks!!!

I found that the cause is the Peripheral Illumination setting. The default is "on". Once I turned it off, all is good once again!

Whew! Glad it was just a setting. Never imaged that it would have such a profound effect. Strange that is it so model/manufacturer specific.

Thanks again.

BTW, I hope to be a more regular contributor here. Love the newer equipment and the amount of discussion on this forum seems very helpful.

Cheers.

Glad it's an easy fix....for what it's worth, I really think that effect could be utilised in some way with the right subject/background combo...
