Towards the end of last season, the AHL hosted a contest for the Photo of the Year award. Each team submitted two photos from the season, and one of the two was chosen by the league. From there, each photo was put into a voting contest over social media for three days. Imagine my shock when my photo won the award. The image below was of out starting goaltender, former NHL player Michael Leighton, with a young fan. My original image is here:

And here's a story the paper ran on the contest.

As always, photos like these have their back stories, so here's my backside to this one. The kid in the image wasn't really in awe of the player. In the previous two shots before this, and one shot after, he can be seen playing with the glass. He was actually blowing on the glass and creating condensation and wiping it off. I happened to catch him as he was blowing on the glass, which gave him the awestruck look.

CONGRATULATIONS. Great photo, story and back story.

I'm only upset you didn't post on the forum when the voting was happening so we could have contributed to your landslide victory.

Thanks all. Didn't even know I was nominated until half way through voting, so it was certainly a surprise.
