Found in the weekend my P.C. suddenly wouldn't detect my 1D3 tethered/connected via USB.

After going out & buying another cardreader I looked online for solutions & found that "download and install the "Media Feature Pack for N and KN versions of Windows 10" which will install the MTP driver : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48231" seemed to be the fix.
Lord knows why it suddenly stopped working (camera just continuously said "busy" when connected) but appears that installing the MS Media Feature pack has got it working again.

Good stuff, plus I've now got a cardreader that I may even use... ;-)a

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

I had my Windows 10 computer suddenly not recongizing two USB 3 ports, not with any device. A couple of automatic updates later it works again.

Well oddly, while the 1D3 didn't work via USB at the time, my 1D2 still did... makes for a very slow transfer though

Joseph...have you considered using a(n) USB3 card reader for image transfers?

Good luck,

Paul

thanks - I've ended up with a Transcend USB 3.0 reader, seems a bit flimsy but I guess I'll get used to using it...
