G1X MK11 Flip screen fault -what to do -choices to make?

My g1x mk11 has deloped a fault with the screen.It works ok when it is in the normal flat position but as soon as you pull it out it goes out .The camera is coming up towards 3 years old so now i am in the quandry of ,

A, getting it repaired ,how much ,is it worth it ,will something else soon go as well ?.

b, getting a new one, looks like they are down to about £470

c, Persevering with it and hope a newer mk111 version or something like it comes out soon.

You can send it in to Canon for repair and they will give you an estimate on how much the repair would cost. From there, you can decide to proceed or have them ship it back to you if you don't want to pay for it.

If you're thinking about getting a new one, your best option is to either repair or wait for new one whenever that may be.

It's ready to be packed off on Monday to see what Canon say.I have had a quick look online to see how things have advanced in the 2.5 years since i bought this and to be honest unless you want a tiny point and shoot or a bridge camera this is still the best of a bunch -- unless people know otherwise, come on convince me ,large sensor ,great lens zoom really well built

I can't see it being an expensive repair, sounds like a "crack" in the comms ribbon near the right hand springed hinge. The G!x mk11 has a great sensor to lens combination so I can understand your reluctance to try and find something better.

It has been sent off this morning -post was £12 eeek .I will let you know what the fault is and costs end up at .I have authorised them up to £150 and hoping it may be able to include a good service and clean up in that--hoping.

If you shoot DSLR cameras then the G5X is the P&S you should own . Takes awesome pictures, has an EVF, and fits in my glovebox .

Got it back today repair + VAT £130 .New lcd screen,,Partial calibration,firmware update,function check.Here's to another 2.5 years of taking photos .

Nice one, sounds as though you,ve got a bit of a service thrown in with the repair.
