An article relating to the images of the CUBS WIN ... and the two images by two newspapers .... one with staff photographers and the other who fired their photographers

As photographers, to us it's a big deal. But to the press that laid off its photographers, they no doubt don't care. Unless the paper gets a Pulitzer from the staff photograph. They would care about that.

What I don't understand is how can it be called the "WORLD SERIES" when only teams from America play in the competition.

Canada has a team that made the playoffs this year. Previously had two.

I agree though. Fairly small world.

.

Unfortunately, I don't think that the quality of the photography really matters that much. I doubt it has any bearing on what newspaper someone buys. If you buy the one paper with a not-so-good photo on the front, then you can just jump online to see the good photo that the other paper features on its cover.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Interesting BUT the trend isn't going back. If you have the talents, shoot where your talents are mattered and maybe paying good enough.

Sad thing is that both papers are dying and photography isn't going to add to the bottom line. I saw it when I still lived in the Chicago area 4 years ago. The subscription folks would call us every few months asking if I wanted a subscription. I declined knowing that they would call in a few days with some insanely cheap deal like pay for only the weekend paper and get the weekdays as well. I suspect that it's continued to drop and will continue to do so.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

From a photographic sense though, it looks as if the Trib photog just had a better angle.

Kind of like the Miss Universe contest. :-P

It's interesting, and it's been happening a lot over the years -- companies are opting for the work of "serious" photographers but not necessarily "pros" or staff members.

I myself have shot various events, although not as a "pro". I've worked to "wait for the moment", and I've used gear and techniques to help me in the "capture", and I'd say it's paid off, not just for my pleasure, but in that I've made a contribution, and that contribution has been recognized!

I thought Canada was part of North America.

Still waiting for the wisdom they promised would be worth getting old for.

You are correct but I presumed the reference was to the United States of America versus North America or South America.

29 of the 30 MLB teams are in the United States.

If I were Canadian (or Mexican etc.) such a presumption, as almost universal as it is, would really irritate me.

I guess we're far worse off than you think because I'm Canadian and I have absolutely no idea what you guys are talking about.
