1Dx and 100-400 II issue

Just got my camera back from canon to clean the viewfinder having a fibre in there that was annoying. Long story short it didn't get fixed. I've purchased the 100-400 II while it was away and when I got my camera back, mounted it for the first time. Once I've selected AF cross point only, my side AF across points all disappear. It comes back if I use 61, 15 or 9.

I've tried switching lens 24/70 F2.8 II, 85L, 135L and the 200L and they all came back. It only seems to be a problem with the 100-400 II. Any ideas? Did Canon knock the mirror or AF module? Thanks for reading.

That seems by design with the previous version of the lens. Check "Group E" lenses in the following manual:

I assume the new lens is the same.

That said, I don't see why you want cross-type only. The 1Dx is not a 5D2

very unlikely the small of fiber made it really inside - if indeed is not sitting on the mirror or focusing screen, then it's under the focusing screen, which is very easy to remove.
Cleaning it it's a whole different game, but luckily for you there is Youtube and plenty of tutorials about removing and cleaning the screen properly.

In any case, if you paid for the service or use CPS, do talk with CS and ask to be redone (if indeed was written down as a task to be performed)

No an 800 F5.6 L IS! Had a 400 F2.8 the 800 is much more fun - and lighter!

... but the 800 is a Group-F lens, while the 400/2.8 is in Group-A (and Group-E with a 2x Extender).
