The streaked horned lark (Eremophila alpestris strigata) is a subspecies of the horned lark that is endemic to the Pacific Northwest. It prefers sparsely vegetated open habitat and has suffered greatly due to habitat loss. It is believed that only about 800-1000 individuals are present today and it has been classified as a Threatened Species in 2013.

Broughton Beach in Portland is one of the places to reliably see this bird. Here are a couple of shots, taken with the 7D2 and the 500/4 II. Thanks for looking!

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Very nice work! Horned larks are beautiful little birds when viewed up close. I get the Prairie and Northern subspecies during winter here.

Zach--C&C is welcome on my photos

Thank you very much for the kind words, gentlemen! Nothing beats a nice walk with a friend or loved one, or alone for that matter, enjoying and getting immersed in nature. :)
