Purchased a new HP laptop today with Windows 10. Decided to subscribe to Adobe for $10 a month to get access to Photoshop and Lightroom. The only programs this laptop is to have are Adobe CC and Adobe Lightroom.

I have spent the last 3+ hours trying to install the two apps on my new laptop. I gave up after several unsuccessful attempts, still at 45% completion of just one app after two hours!!!

Quite obvious Adobe CC is incompatable with Windows 10. I refuse to keep troubleshooting/fiddling with my settings to try to install this useless application. It shouldn't have to be this difficult to simply install a program on your computer. I can't even begin to imagine all the problems I will have opening up a single RAW image (provided this app ever actually downloads onto my laptop sometime within this century). I am unsubscribing today.

Therefore, I need to find a photo editing program (please not anything made by Adobe, especially Lightroom). It needs to let me batch process RAW files and work with layers. Any suggestions?

Hmm, hard to respond since you've rejected a working Adobe setup. I'd just say that there are plenty of folks here who use CC with Windows 10 and are up and running.

Of course, stuff can come up either with the installation or in getting up and running, but those things often have quick, simple fixes. If you don't want to hear any feedback as to the Adobe stuff, fine!

I'd take a good look at Capture One for RAW files,.

As for a pixel editor, you can find the old "Photoshop CS2" for free direct from Adobe,. it's 32 bit, but still works on Windows 7 64 anyway.

Probably some crap that HP installed with the computer that is making thins incompatible. Figure out how to reformat the HD and do a clean install of Windows without all the add on BS.

Or buy a Mac.

It's not a problem with Windows 10. Something else is going on with your computer.

  • It's not our fault
  • The laptop might be defective or a setting might be wrong
  • There might be issues with your Internet connection

Take a break from the computer and relax for a bit, frustrations make people do silly things.

CC works just fine for most people on a Windows 10 laptop so there is either something wrong with your laptop, or your methodology for installing.

Perhaps if you can detail the steps taken so far, and the issues experienced people may actually be able to help you.

Perhaps your internet download speeds are quite limited, like mine are. Be patient, start the software download process and go to bed and see where it is in the morning.

It can take a long time for me to download updates to my GPS because I am too far away from the hub to have an optical link to my DSL carrier...4 hours is not uncommon.

I agree with all others ... it's not Adobe, and I'm not a fan of Adobe.

But if you're dead set against not using Adobe, have a look at the new On1 Photo Raw
which will be released at the end of this month.

From the videos I've seen it will have lots of batch processing features.

This reminds me of the bloke that called BMW Customer Services to complain about his recently purchased 320 Automatic.
Apparently it would only work in the daytime and not in the night-time. If he selected (D)ay mode, he couldn’t fault it, it was absolutely brilliant, but when he switched to (N)ight mode the car just wouldn’t work.

Obviously it was the car at fault and not the driver.

HP is notorious for their instillation of junk in their new laptops.
Best plan of attack is to contact Adobe cust support, explain your problems, and have them "link-up" with your computer and let them do the instillation.

FWIW...PS has a learning curve measured in years, and...that laptop's display is not ideal for PP.

I made the fool mistake of updating my HP systems to Win10 as well. It is not the application it is HP and Win10. I found on my systems the driver for the hard drive just wasn't ready for Win10. It would run at 100% for 100% of the time. Try just opening a page on the Internet, my systems got to where it took two to three minutes just to open a web page. I bought myself a Macbook Pro and haven't looked back.

All though I have to say I am not impressed with the new Macbook that require a dongle to connect to anything. I will likely look at Microsoft again if I ever need something else as I don't see myself carrying a bag of dongles just to use my laptop.

I swore off HP years ago for reasons too numerous to mention. I see things apparently have not changed with them.
