A couple residents at our feeder. I've been hand-feeding them both. The Reds are quite amiable, but it's a rare White that will come to you.

Lovely captures, Al! Especially like the first shot!

Do you sit close to the feeder with you hand outstretched? How do they come to your hand versus just going to the feeder?

If I don't get the shots I want with the gear I have, the only optics I need to examine is the mirror on the bathroom wall. The root cause will be there.

Thanks, Sam; I appreciate your commenting. I started by holding some shelled peanuts, their favorites, in my hand, directly over the feeder tray. I do it in the mornings when they're really hungry and when there's nothing else left in the tray but yesterday's sunflower seeds. Then, once they get used to me, I can generally stand anywhere they are and they will come. The little red-breasters are so bold, I've had them fly in my face a hundred yards away, begging for food. There's just something nifty when they trust you enough to land on you.

Thank you all for you kind comments. With the unseasonably mild weather we have been having, I'm taking advantage to train some of my flock to hand-feeding. Soon it will be too cold to spend long without gloves on!
