I like the idea of a smaller walk around camera. I have had small point and shoots and I like the removable lenses. My 7D2 is way to big to walk around with and even my T2i feels so big in comparison. I purchased an EOS-M when they first came out and I liked it for a bit but the lack of a viewfinder finally sealed the deal to me no longer using it. So will the O-MD E-M10 II give me the feel that I want or could it be that I actually dont like the small format?

Anyone use both, full DSLR and M4/3 or made the switch recently? Thoughts?

First let me say that I am no expert on cameras, sensor sizes or which is best. I am speaking from my experience. I have the Canon 1Ds III, 7D and the Olympus EM5 II. I wanted something smaller than my Canon's to walk or hike with so I bought the Olympus EM5 II. The only thing I notice that is different is that I cannot blow up my pictures like I can with my Canons. I will start getting noise. But I did not buy the Oly to make X-Large prints. I only send the pictures to my friends to view on their computers. You can do a very good print of a picture for framing. A 16X12 is no problem. That is the largest I have gone so I don't know how much larger you can go without loss of quality. The only other thing I can say is that the continuous shooting is terrible. That is why I have my 7D. The good thing is Oly glass is excellent and small. I bought the 25mm (50mm) f1.8 with my camera and have since bought many other lenses. The 12mm, 25mm and the 45mm are small enough to carry in your coat pocket and the 9mm fisheye will fit in your shirt pocket. I know you are looking at the EM10 II but the sensor is basically the same as the EM5 II. The EM5 II is weather sealed and may had more features. You may also want to look at the Pen F if you want to go smaller. It is more expensive but has 20MP compared to the EM10 II 16MP. If you are into the MP race. Hope this rambling helps.

I appreciate the thoughts. I took the pen cameras off my list as I have to have a view finder. The screen only option is a deal breaker and the main reason I don't use my eos-m. Print also isn't much of an issue as this will mostly be a walking around grab be go camera. For anything specific like sports I have my 7D2 and accompanying lenses. I also looked at the em5 but the $500+ price difference made me half and I didn't find $500+ worth of features to make the difference. Weather sealing is a plus but not mandatory.

I'm gonna be goin to check them out and hold them in my hands though so that may sway me.

Thanks for the thoughts. It has helped me.

I have had Canon DSLR's for a long time and currently use the 7D (had 1D and still have a 1D classic) and you are right, they are heavy. I few years ago I picked up a E-M10 to test the waters and now I have more m4/3's gear then Canon. I have the E-m10 and E-m1 as well as the tiny GM5. I recently picked up a EOS M3 to play with and so far the verdict is out but it is not bad.

My thoughts are this. If I am going out with the sole purpose photography I will take the DSLR most times and that even depends what I going to shoot. If I am going somewhere that might present some good shooting I take the m4/3's. I basically never leave the house without the m4/3's when I really think about it. The bodies are small but not so small they can't be used and the glass is small and lightweight but are superb optically. I find the shooting expierence of shooting with my Oly's much more enjoyable, the feature set just makes it easier for me to be more creative.

As far as prints go, 16x20 is easy to get and and great quality IMO

Ended up making the decision on the way home from work and picked up a E-M10II with the kit lens and added on the 40-150 since it was practically a throw in. Lots of knobs and things to learn now but Ill get it Im sure. I appreciate the help.
