I'm aware that these bags are not directly comparable but I'd appreciate input from users or even those who dismissed either.

Ive currently got an old Lowepro Nature Trekker which swallows all my gear if I really want to carry everything but boy is that bag heavy empty and there isn't much room for non photo stuff.

I'm looking for a lighter weight daypack that can take Canon 7D mk ii, Canon 70/200 f4, Canon 10/22, Tamron 17/50 f2.8 plus usual accessories filters, batteries etc. I would also like to have separate space for non photo gear e.g. my lunch, lightweight jacket. I don't need a tripod holder but drinks pocket to hold a flask / water bottle is essential.

I'm aware the Vanguard is the heavier but the harness seems well reviewed and I wondered if this can mitigate the weight

All thoughts appreciated

I am currently using Vanguard Skyborne. Beside this, I have also used Caselogic 206 as backpack for camera gears.
Vanguard Skyborne 48 is a Heavy Duty bag. It is tough and retains its shape while empty as well as fully loaded. I used the bag for my overseas trip to Zurich and Rome and gears were safe in the bag. The harness, belts, clips everything is above average. The rain cover and Tripod pouch is included. Tripod pouch holds the legs and it ise tied with a clip on top. The access of camera from side is comportable. The side pocket for easy camera access also holds a small storage for cards etc. The top portion of the bag can holds lots of items including flash, snacks, filter etc. I have used Laptop compartment for cloths as well.

Overall the bag is very nice and usable. The padded shoulder strips are really very very comfortable.

But recently during hiking trips, I felt that the 2.5 Kg weight of the Bag takes a toll on body and wanted to reduce the weight.

I started searching for similar bags and finally ordered Vanguard Sedona 51BL. Yet to receive the bag. However, for travel in trains, planes etc, Vanguard skyborne 48 will be my happy company.

Lowepro 400 looks a little odd in shape. Although I have not used it, but it is not as multipurpose as Skyborne. However, both bags open from back side.
