So if it is against the rules to post a joke about a politician in the “Whats Your Favourite Joke? (TOTALLY unrelated to photography)” thread, why is it perfectly acceptable to post a photo of a politician in the “Who is the most famous person you photographed?” thread. Surely if the joke I made was removed by a moderator (T.D.) because it was political, then all the photos of politicians posted on POTN also should be removed because they are also political.

Not sure I follow your logic. Photographs of politicians are not any more political than photos of musicians are musical. In any case the bottom line is there are rules to follow here - written and unwritten and we have agreed to follow them. We're guests here. If we don't like it we are free to move onto another forum. Case closed. In any case this is a pretty sensitive time for many. Even if political jokes were appropriate for the forum it would be premature if not insensitive to start with them now.

If I'm correct, the "joke" that you posted was a "meme" containing a photo of, well, a well-known politician :) and a quote attributed to him that was definitely of a political nature. I wouldn't call it a joke, and in fact to find humor would require me to delve into the political "mess" we've been seeing, and also to check out that quote. As it turns out the quote was a false attribution put out by political opponents to gain some political "ground".

Maybe someone could come up with some actual jokes about things, but that one wasn't funny! :)

I suspect context is everything, one would be trying to introduce politics as humour, whereas the other would be simply a photography subject.

some fairly old canon camera stuff, canon lenses, Manfrotto "thingy", and an M5, also an M6 that has had a 720nm filter bolted onto the sensor:

OK, I accept that not everybody has the same sense of humour and that what one person finds funny someone else does not. However it does seem that all posts regarding Donald Trump do get removed whereas posts poking fun at other politicians do not.

I posted an image of DT with a funny caption and it was removed.
I posted a video which is a parody of the “John Lewis” Christmas advert, and it is still under discussion by the moderators after four days, why, because the faces of Trump, Clinton and the Obamas’ were superimposed on the four main characters in the video. Let’s not forget this video is about a dog on a trampoline, what political connotations anyone can derive from that is beyond me.
Another member posted another spoof video featuring a few historic Germans, the subtitles of which seemed to poke fun at DT, again this was removed.
BUT the joke I posted about a British politician, Nigel Farage, seems to be perfectly acceptable as this has not been removed.

Don’t forget that the four posts that I mentioned above were all posted in the “JOKES” sub-forum so I was not actively endorsing or promoting any political beliefs.

The only conclusion that I can draw from this is that we are not allowed to mention Donald Trump.

Chances are the mods have no clue who Farrage is and haven't therefore appreciated your joke was political (and one that I enjoyed I may add).

As for the John Lewis video parody, I really enjoyed it when I saw it somewhere before you posted it here, probably considered political because of the 4 characters being politicians, and hopefully not because DT was seen to be the victor.

Anyway, everyone's taste is different, I enjoy political jokes but have reluctantly accepted I am wasting my time posting them here.

As for the John Lewis ad, here's the Scottish version (non-political!) http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk …ad-scottish-style-9233743 (external link)

This thread is a good reason why I have never, ever looked at the jokes forum.

As private citizens it is beyond our power to censor anyone.

We can however enforce our forums rules.
Please do not confuse the two, as they are very much unrelated.

Any discrepancy or assumed hypocrisy would in fact be a mere matter of whether or not the members of this forum have reported a post or not.

Thank you for this thread which brought my attention to the many instances of un reported forum rule violations that you continued to post after many deletions and warnings. Otherwise we may have never found them.

My facebook page is available to anyone that thinks I might have politics that line up with John's accusation.
