I still don't know what I am doing yet, but I found a lightly used Rokinon for $250. So I took some test shots on the first clear night I could get. I figure for that price, why not? Even if I don't use it much for astral, its a decent wide angle landscape/low light lens.
These are some results. As per my sig, critique is welcome.
The moon was out that night, but I decided to just go with it, being winter in Alberta, there aren't many clear nights available.

An obligatory Milky way shot. Needs some tweaking, but it's not too bad?IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/P1xrRC

The moon finally went below the horizon, slightly. It worked out kind of surreal.IMAGE LINK: https://flic.kr/p/P1xrvC
