Using 5.7xx. downloaded trial copy of photoshop cc. Big mistake. Removed CC program. Now my original version of lightroom displays photos but when i select develop it says the "folder could not be found". Tried reinstalling Lightroom and importing catalogs but still same problem. Checked Adobe help but did not work. Any suggestions? Capture One is looking better and better

Might try to locate the physical directory on your drive and re-import them. It sounds as if the LR library is out of sync from the actual physical directory.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Before installing or uninstalling anything did you make a copy of your catalog?

When you reinstalled 5.7x and got the folder cannot found error did you look at the status of your folders in the library module? Was there a question mark on them and if so did you attempt to direct Lightroom to associate with the missing folder?

Yes have copy of backup drive and on old computer i move the files from. Yes there is a question mark. I tried to have lightroom search but did not work. I just moved this over from the other computer about a week ago. Was working fine until I did the CC trial

In the Library Folders module, go to the highest-level folder that has a question mark. Right-click on the folder and select for Lightroom to find the missing folder. A window will open with a Browse button, click and browse to and select the folder.

This should have cured it. Is it still showing the "?" Even after following this instruction?

Don't reimport them or you will lose all your edits

If on a Mac go to finder or if on a PC go to windows explorer and take a look where you think the photos are to make sure they actually are there. Then select that folder from within Lightroom when browsing. It should be something simple but may take a bit of head scratching to sort but don't think you need to panic as nothing should be lost

When you right click the highest-level folder with a question mark you might have an option called 'Update folder location' try using this.

After you do the highest-level folder and the question mark goes away, do the subfolders have question marks?

Ok it looks like i might have figured out the problem. After watching several youtube videos on moving files, reading adobe support forums etc it all came down to I screwed up. I did not copy over the folders that contain the images. Copied over a few directories. Searched for files in the directories and now it works ok when i go into develop mode. Now I just need to finish transferring 20K + pics from the old computer to portable drive and on to new computer. Will take some time but seems to be working so all good

Thanks to all for your help on this. My level of panic has dropped, whew.

Randy
