Hm, got home and try as I might, I can't seem to get myself registered fro the beta.

On my 2nd try, it tells me I am now "already registered" but no email, no nothing.

Anyway, it looks interesting.

Thanks, I've been playing around a bit.
The raster editor looks like a very good alternative to PS,.
The RAW converter has most of the tools I would want. and I like the basic layout.
It opened the latest 5D4 RAW file no problem (I have apps that still can't do that)

Some nitpicks I will mention when I sign up in the beta forum,..

- It forces me to change my windows theme? It wants an "Aero" theme or it won't open?

- My oh my is it CPU hungry! I was tweeking a simple 7D2 file, a useless tosser of an Osprey in flight with a totally grey hazy day sky,. no detail at all, and was wondering why my workstation was sounding so different. I thought something was wrong, fan bearing or something. then suddenly it all went back to normal.

I opened task manager, made a minor adjustment in the develop tools, (added a touch of sharpening ) and the sound was back, and all 8 CPU meters pegged at 100%

This was the FIRST APP I have ever used that maxed out all my CPU power, and thus the fan was changing speeds to a high speed I had never heard.

- Opening a RAW file is slow.

- I don't see any way to browse images, no filmstrip in the RAW developer. The only option I see is "open" at which point I navigate via windows folder view. For me this means no RAW file thumbs either.

- Dual monitor toolbar use is problematic, but really this is just a beta bug. I can arrange toolbars on one screen and leave the image alone on the other, this is how I like to work, but it won;t "stick" switching from develop to Photo can make them all snap back to the main monitor, or closing out of the app and reopening,. and there is no consistency in whether it will remember my position or go back to default. It just seems to randomly chose.

Thanks for the update Jake.

By the time i had the kiddlies in bed and sat down it was time to sleep, off the weekend so hopefully i will get a chance to play.

The Mac version won the best design award for 2015 and is supposed to be a real contender for PS in non beta form, so hopefully it will shape up to be everything that they want it to be, and the price is half that of PS.

Apparently the Aero theme is a requirement or the system will fallback to a legacy graphics driver which according to Affinity will cause severe system degradation.

I've had a quick mess on my Laptop, nothing fancy I5 8 gig ram and opening an image was pretty slow!!

Need to free up resources then have another look tonight, might even do a fresh install as the latest Windows 10 updates appear to have slowed down my Lapcat quite a bit 8(

It may be that this is an app that ACTUALLY makes good use of a good graphics card,. something that I am completely lacking, despite having an otherwise fire breather of a system.

Even my onboard intel graphics would likely be better than the card I am currently using I would guess,.

Anyway, I pointed out the negatives because well, it's a beta and we need to look for the problems. All in all though I am excited about the look and feel!

I've had a little play, mostly I like the ability to load .LUT files. You can get some cool film (movie) looks. Davinci Resolve does this too and is free too but isn't quite as photo friendly.

The quick and easy frequency separation is nice.

I agree with CyberDyneSystems, opening RAW files does seem to take longer than photoshop/lightroom.

Some of the menus are a bit slow or don't behave how you might expect, it could be that it's just beta oversights and will be fixed or that it is just different and takes time to get used to. It's crashed once so far. What drives me nuts if having no quick way to reset a slider to 0 (double clicking the title, right clicking the up or down arrows, double clicking the input field, etc.) There's a reset for the whole panel but not for individual sliders =\ When you do things thousands or times daily, having to do an extra step everytime is a bit annoying. If someone knows how to reset a slider without resetting the panel let me know.

The Tone Mapping module seems to take forever to load, and in general the over-stated HDR-like effects are a bunch of .. (personal preference but I really really dislike overdone HDR effects). There's a couple of OK ones and if you're doing standard HDR stacking without using the presets it has all the adjustments you need.

Focus Stacking

It took quite a long time to focus stack 15 raw images compared to photoshop but the stacking was clean and accurate. Once stacking is complete it gives you the option to clone parts of the images in the stack to the final output, you have access to all the brush options during this process which is GREAT. The process is similar to Zerene, just more user friendly (even if missing a couple of hardcore tools).

This might be my go-to stacker for a while, still need to do more tests.
