Just got a used x1.4 extender ver. iii. seems to work good,,except its does not show up on focal length info. My x2 extender ver iii ,,, only shows up some times on the focal length info. Anyone got any ideals as to cause of this,,,or solutions ? I find this a rather strange situation !

A little more information would be helpful. Camera? Lens? Maybe even some of your settings?

Not sure what your problem could be...everytime I have used extenders they have always shown up in the focal length information no matter which lens I have used..
Maybe get a friend to try the extenders on their camera to see if they show up..

Not sure any of this is relevant, but data is data.

Camera: 6D
TC: EF 1.4X II
Lenses: 135L, 200 2.8L II, 70-200 f/4L IS, 100-400Lc.

I tried mounting TC to lens, then mounting TC/Lens to turned off camera.
I also tried leaving TC on camera, leaving camera turned on, and just changing lens.

The TC showed up in my EXIF every time.

The only time my TC does NOT show up is when I use them on the 100mm f/2.8 macro. I think the intervening ET causes that.

Thanks for your suggestions Tapeman & Don. Update,,,,,I just found scotch tape on 4 of the terminals of the x1.4 extender ! Removed it,,thinking that would of been the problem ! So on my 7dmkii...100-400 set at 400,,am getting a focal length of 560mm with my x1.4 on. shouldn't be 500mm?

I was just going to suggest looking for scotch tape on four of the terminals...

The next part is a mathematical exercise.

7DII is "f8 capable" so it can AF the 100-400mm with a 1.4X attached, so no "tape" is needed. You'll be restricted to the center AF point only, when using an f8 lens/TC combo.

However, a 2X on the 100-400makes for an f11 combo that should cause the AF to turn off, unless you tape it up. Tape on a couple of the contacts will "fool" the camera into not knowing the teleconverter is there and so will not record the change in focal length in the EXIF. (Google for info about which contacts to tape up... I don't know since I'd never put my 2X on my 100-400.)

When I use converters sometimes this occurs if you attach the converter to the camera body first. If I attach it to the lens first the problem is resolved. Also, somewhere I read about Canon recommending you to always attatch the converter to the lens first.
