100-400 mk2 moon pictures.

Hello.

Quick question.

Given the moon is so far away, can I autofocus on it or do i need to manually focus due to the lack of hard infinity stops?

The horizontal stripes are cloud formations and not banding for those wondering.

I have always just used autofocus. Even with a 1.4X TC

If you don't mind my saying so MysticFalcon, the sharpening looks quite heavy handed there.

I don't shoot the moon much, but I did earlier this year to kind of suss out differences between the Sigma 120-300 and the Canon 100-400 II with both the 1.4X and 2X TCs. The results were remarkably similar and this one is the 100-400 with the 2X TC.

For the OP, I used autofocus via live view. IMO that is the best approach for such a subject.

I recommend using Live View AF, just use the leading edge of the disk to get your contrast point.
