Did my first ever concert shoot last night for my favorite band of all time... FISHBONE!

I contacted management and nicely requested a media pass. Pleasantly surprised with a simple "No problem" and made the most of it.

I shot Manual with the 35 f2 IS and the 85 1.8 with ISO normally at 800-1600 and a shutter speed of 200-250.

I must say shooting wide open was really tough. The limited DOF was difficult because I was front row, center stage. Lot of shots just didn't get everything I wanted in focus but all in all it went really well and I'm happy with my results.

More on my flickr page if you're interested. Thanks for looking.

Very good results! I especially like the baritone sax.

Thanks also for sharing the technical details. Were you stationary in the front row or did you move left/right along the stage?

Thank you!

I was stationary so I put myself between Angelo (lead singer) and Norwood (bass) as I knew I'd get the best shots from here.
There was a mosh pit behind me with LOTS of activity so movement was not really possible. This position allowed me little access to the guitar, keyboard or drummer.

Also being a huge fan I tried to enjoy the show as well and limit my shots to what I thought would be good instead of rapid fire.

I did shoot AI Servo on Continuous mode.

Very much like myself :-)

I try to grab a front row seat and to be as unobtrusive in my shooting as I can, often via live view, so as not to disturb other members of the audience. Also leaving enough time for just enjoying the show.

Yes great shots for a first event! I've never seen Fishbone but I saw the lead singer perform with Karl Denson at the Hangtown Music Festival this year and he stole the show. Absolutely amazing...
