The upper image is a little too dark in the face. If you use Photoshop, try the Image->Adjustments->Shadows/Highlights tool. That should allow you to recover some detail in the shadows without making the highlights any brighter.

The bottom image does not as sharp as it should be. I looked at the EXIF and saw 1/13" exposure. If you were shooting on a tripod, that would be a practical speed, but not if hand-held. The lens was essentially wide open, I believe. So, at that distance and with that lens, there may not be enough depth of field. It just seems that it could be a little sharper, and maybe an application of sharpening would help.

Great comments and perception.

The only problem I have is my son took the pics with my Xmas present.

He is getting too good
