Two guys asked me for spare change but I didn't have any. So they asked me for a picture instead.

I think you should have dug a little deeper and given them something for letting you take their photograph. Obviously they will not have access to the photos you've taken but you will.

I don't know how homeless guys keep their photos but whether it was e-mail, facebook or a good old fashioned print I hope you managed to get a copy to them.
