I got interested in C1P just because the tethering in LR is so god-awful. C1P is vastly, VASTLY superior for tethering. I have no opinion yet on RAW processing/conversion between the two, but I'll never willingly tether in LR again. C1P's DAM is somewhere between hopeless and non-existent. At this point, my feeling is that I'll end up doing tethered capture in C1P, then importing into LR for DAM, probably doing the RAW conversion in LR/ACR, and then any heavy lifting in in PS. I just can't see using LR to manage the files, going back into C1P for RAW processing/conversion, and then going back to the Adobe side for finishing in PS.

The funny and sad thing about the DAM in C1P being terrible is that C1P is the descendant of iView Media Pro, the original DAM solution around which The DAM Book was centered. Somewhere in the last decade they lost the plot.

C1 has been around since 2002 at least,. it is the most evolved RAW converter around.
The tethering is good because Phase One makes digital backs and tethering was practically invented by them for those old big medium format bodies.

As for DAM, it's weaknesses in C1 may be a huge part of why it runs circles around most of the RAW tools that force DAM on you.

It looks so because it is. ;)

It should because they don't give it away. I tried it long ago and really liked it but did not buy it. Had already invested in CS2 or 3 and upgraded until CS6. I also use LR but mostly photoshop for hobby shots.

I'm afraid to download the trial because I might buy it :-)

That reminds me of RawShooter, the raw converter that lasted until the 30D, when Adobe bought it out. It was regarded as the sharpest and most detailing converter of the time, reputedly due to its great demosaicing algorithm.

But many users complained about muddy skin rendition, me too. Only after switching to another converter did I find out what was causing the muddy skin tones in RawShooter. It was a sharpening preset that you couldn't zero out with the sharpening slider (that option was hidden in preferences) which only sharpened with black halo that was difficult to notice, but muddied the midtones, especially skin.

I had to analyze an image at 400% to finally diagnose the issue.

I remember RawShooter. I was just learning about RAW back then.
