I am still a newer photographer when it comes to weddings, I use my 70-200 2.8L with my Canon 7D... and 28-135 on a Rebel t3i. So, the question is.... do I spring for a new L lens? Or a full frame 5D? 24-105 f4 or 24-70 f2.8 ($700 price difference) I will only be getting one of these things bc I've already invested so much, but what should I do?

As a general rule you get more from a better lens than a better body. The new 24-70 f2.8L II is also updated to the new bodies and won't need to be upgraded later.

Trever Canon 7D, 24-70 F2.8L ii, Sigma 10-20 1:4-5.6 DC HSM, and a bunch of other little stuff to make light sorta work. Deviant (external link)

People correct me if i am wrong.

The 7D is pretty out dated.. I would normally say get a lens, but i think that a new body is the way to go. If you are not getting the 5D 3 or 5D4, i would look into a 6D rather then a 5D or 5D2.

Where do you feel you are lacking based on the work you have already done? Are you missing shots because of the focal lengths available to you or are you missing shots because the bodies are not upto the frame rate / low light performance you are looking for?

I feel by answering these questions you will arrive at a decision that will give you the best value for your dollar.

Depends. I'm guessing you only have one or two on-camera flashes for your cameras. If that is the case I would think about upgrading your lighting first before you buy more lenses.

Totally depends on what shots you think you are missing.

I finally upgraded my camera body when I hit iso limits and results I wasn't happy with. Before then, it was always needing a new lens to accomplish what I really wanted.

So list out the shots you want, but can't get... as stated, it could be you need different lighting equipment, different body, or different lens.. People have shot whole weddings on Iphones, but they could work around the limitations of the camera in hand.. which we have always done as photographers.. :)

Godox/Flashpoint r2 system, plus some canon stuff.

Great thread. Been thinking about the same thing. I shoot with a 7d and for back up...when I have to use... is the 20d :)
Actually selling some stuff here that I don't use anymore.
I like what the 7dii has to offer.

I think if I went to a full frame I would have to sell my tamarin lens but I think my 70-200 IS would work..... desions... heck I'm even thinking about updat my pic...it's been over 7 yrs. would like to get an iMac :)

Lenses generally keep more value.
