One time I got an Opteka grip for an older Canon T2i and the grip went bad.

I ordered a Vello for my Canon 5D Mk ii which I sold two of, and that grip was great. I ordered Vello again for my 5D Mk iii and Canon 5DS which I upgraded to like last August and the grips work perfect.

I almost always use 3rd party batteries for extras, and other than the question my camera asks right after the first swap, those have always worked good and I have a bunch of them.

For a 5D4 I would bite the bullet and get a canon grip. In the big picture it isn't that much money and it IS better than the knockoffs even if the knockoffs are good enough for most people. There is no way I would have a 5D4 (and lens!) hanging off of a knockoff grip thats attached to my r-strap for example.

Yeah, at this point, I think I'll go all canon original, it's not that much more when compared to the price of the 5d4 and L lenses that it's attached to.

I had big problems with the Adorama Flashpoint brand battery grip on the 6D. Tried two different copies and switched to Vello. I've had a small number of problems but not enough to make me regret the purchase.
