So, I am not sure where to put this in the "Photo Sharing" forum. This seemed to be the closest one. Maybe we should get a business photo section?
Anyway, my neighbor has(had) this 100 year old maple in his yard. I bought the house 3 years ago and there was a branch hanging from his yard over my garage. I nagged him for 3 years to do something about it and he was just too ignorant to care. The tree was obviously dangerous and rotted too. There was already a large broken branch stuck in the tree from years passed. He has a family with kids renting/living with him too. Basically, he has more to lose from the tree falling than I did. WELL, a few months ago, a 50ft BRANCH came down and did $4,000.00 damage to my garage and fence. It was 3 branches in one. One piece was 24" thick, another was 18", and the 3rd was 10". We got that fixed... then ANOTHER branch came down 2 weeks later and damaged the fence panels right next to the new ones we just replaced.
I said to myself, "That's enough I am taking that damn tree down!" There were still several branches that could fall and take out my garage AND part of my house. Luckily, I remember shooting a wedding a month prior and one of the groomsman had approached me asking about some action business photos. So, I called him and asked him if he was still interested bc I had the perfect tree for him to cut down and showcase what they can do. So, we worked out a deal between us 3 to get the tree cut down cheap. All I paid was my time and some business photos, and the neighbor paid a small amount, and the tree guys got some cool business photos!
For you tree guys here, this was a very dangerous tree. The tree service kept commenting on all of the rot and pointing out the dangerous structure of it. It looked like 4 trees in one. It was split down to the base and grew in a ton of directions. Many of the branches weren't connected to each other. It was odd because a lot of it was hollow with bark growing on the inside. The base was over 48" across. While notching it, there was water leaking out. And 1 week after taking it down, we had 35mph winds 2 days in a row! whew!
So, I have never done these types of photos before but it was pretty fun. I was up in the bucket, which was an old Consumer's Energy truck. We were about 65ft up in some shots!
Anyway, here are a few of the photos. We set some up but they mostly just wanted to work while I took shots bc they were still on a schedule. I had a guy in the bucket with me moving the bucket around. I got a little motion sickness at one point from all the swaying while looking through the lens!
I will say, though, these guys are VERY good at their jobs and maybe a little crazy.
In the photos, my house is the one with the bucket truck parked in teh drivewaye and the tree is in my neighbor's yard.

IF YOU WOULD LIKE ME TO POST MORE, JUST ASK. I can only post 8 at a time, I have had my posts deleted for posting 9 photos before. There are a ton of photos of the process.
Here is a link to my facebook post about it. The video is here as well >>> https://www.facebook.com …394656178/?type=3&theater![]()
