Many photographers know ON1 has been developing a new RAW engine for years, and has been hyping the heck out of it for a year. Announced release was 11/23/2016. But as of this writing at 9:30 Eastern... nothing. They are a west coast company. So what. I sent this email this morning. Probably won't get anywhere.
However, it can help you when making a decision whether to invest in their software
The ON1 Software email:
---------------
I hope you know what you have done here has damaged your reputation. Everybody knows you're a small company, but you have diminished your size and trustability further.
You have been developing on1 raw for years, you have been hyping the heck out of it for a year. You would think that for such a major release and event, you could have had one staffer stay late or come in early to press a key on a keyboard to send the mass emails and open the download floodgates at 12:01 Eastern time or even GMT.
A large company would never have done this. You have amplified your reputation of being small.
And all you have to do is ask yourself this question and answer it honestly: Would YOU purchase software from a company who was so perceivably small you knew support might disappear and upgrades might disappear because they were so small they couldn't compete?
You really pulled a big gufaw here. A complete lack of vision, indeed.
---------------
Some may agree with the assessment, some may not.
The release of ON1 Photo RAW is the biggest event this company has had in years. Possibly the biggest event ever.
But if they are so small they can't even get it out on time, as announced, is this software you want to spend your money on? I already pre-ordered mine, and can't get it back. But now I'm concerned. If the new ON1 RAW is not a profitable success, it may be the end of this company. And support. And upgrades. And your investment.
It has been said by many that Adobe is like a huge oil tanker at sea, slow to turn, slow to change. However, at least you can trust that Adobe will be there.
With this obvious lack of vision of ON1's management, I'm not so sure about them now.
