I shoot anything that does or does not move.
I can finally upgrade to full frame.
5dmk4 4400 bucks
5dr 4600 bucks
200 bucks is no issue. Which one? Why?
Thanks, Eric

Need more info than that.

But basically, if you're trying to decide between a 30mp and 50mp camera, regardless of their similarities, the bottom line comes down to whether you need the resolution advantage of the 50mp, or not. And if you don't know if you need that extra 20MP or not, then that's the bigger question for you than trying to figure out any other feature differences.

Very best,

Full frame is not always an upgrade. Depends on what you plan to do with it. If you just need a really good, do-it-all camera, I'd suggest a serious look at the 5D3. I don't own one, primarily because I don't need a really good, do-it-all camera. I muddle through with 2 (3 tomorrow! :) ) bodies that each really excel at what they do do.

Really was not looking at res but whether 5dr is worth 200 extra bucks for other features.

That is beyond me. I don't see the point of either of those cameras.

If you're not needing the resolution, then what reason is there to look at the 5DR? That's the deep question that will help you separate the two.

Very best,

For the things that move, the 5D4. It has Canon's latest AF system, which is excellent.

Image editing ok; C&C always welcome.

I don't know your situation, but go with the 5DIV if those are the two you're deciding on.

I'd go with the 5dmIV personally. Beautiful camera, superior quality, does the trick every time

Given your post history in the last 2 hours, something seems a bit odd in your replies... ???

This camera (the 5D4) looks beautiful. Is this top of the line?

If you shoot everything, especially stuff that moves the 5D MK4 is an all round camera, get it for an all-round photographer. The 5d R is better for studio and landscape, stuff in good light primarily that does not require a high from rate. There are people using the 5d R for BIF but this is a limited use.

The 5d4 is better with DR thus a better landscape camera in some conditions. It also handles higher ISO better.

I actually ordered the 5DRS and cancelled it. I had a hard time deciding which path to take. I wanted the resolution for cropping but was not sure I wanted a specialized camera. I've seen nice BIF shots with it but I figured the success rate might be hindered.

I finally decided on the 5D4 a few weeks ago and do not regret my decision at all. I can crop the heck out my images. AF is excellent and it has a lot of handy features like my 7D2 has. I took a risk when selling the 5D3 hoping the 5D4 was at least 28 megapixels. It was 30 but I still needed to be convinced I could match crop body IQ with having to crop a FF. I really did not see enough samples but decided to take the plunge and 8 megapixels really make a big difference.

1. I get all 61 AF points with my 100-400 II and 1.4 III. I love to use all the AF configs and Case numbers when I shoot and I not yet convinced Cases 5 and 6 do much for me unless I am using one of the zone AF modes. I'll be using that combo a lot more now. 560mm is a good compromise between a 500 and 600L. As you can see from some of my posts the IQ is good with extreme crops.

2. The focus is very snappy even with the TC. When I was testing on the birds on the shots I was taking I was impressed. Can hardly wait to try BIF.

3. Case number parameters have more steps for fine tuning. Identical to the 1DX II.

4. The 5D4 has a separate AF area selection button just beside the multi-controller button. The 7D2 had it as part of the multi-controller button. If Canon had offered it as a retro for my 5D3 I would have paid to have it installed. I paid to have Canon install a locking mode dial retro on my 7D.

5. I did not really consider it but the touch screen is pretty amazing. I can whip through the menus. I barely use the green my menu's now. When I pick up my 7D2 I find myself tapping the screen.

6. When you press the Q button you get the Q screen. Press info and a second Q screen comes up that shows all the AF points, ISO etc and you can program more things you want to see when you open that screen.

7. I have been shooting at 32,000 ISO and getting good results.

8. The 5D4 offers the Detail Set when you are programming the AF-ON and * buttons. I wish Canon would add Drive Mode here.

So all around it has everything my 7D2 has that I wish my 5D3 had, more megapixels, better high ISO, better AF than both 5D3 and 7D2 and it is FF.
