So I bought an AC1750 (external link) from Amazon for $85.90 last week. Today, the same item is $66.99.

There was no way online to 'adjust' the difference so I thought I'd return and re-buy, but the return will cost me a minimum of $10 for S&H.

So I finally called Amazon (for the first time in 10 years) and was told there was no way to do this 'adjustment', and that I would have to return, & re-buy if I wanted the lower price.

I know I'd still be $10 ahead, but you'd have thunk this would be easy to do for a representative, no?

Yeah it's not a great policy, but...it only costs you return shipping if the reason for the return isn't because the product didn't perform in a manner you expected. But do two wrongs make a right? Yes, sometimes they do...lol.

Do a chat online, tell them you just received it and price dropped by a lot, they'll refund you, they always did for me.

It was worth $85.90 to you last week. You liked the deal then. So you should still be OK with it.

Some companies have price guarantees, and I would definitely take advantage of that if possible. But in this case that seems not possible. Just live with your purchase decision. It's only $19.

Next time, don't check prices a week later!

I agree but I disagree. I always check prices for the following 30 days after a large purchase, if the price goes down I always ask for a price match, and 99.999% of the time the retailers have no problems matching it. It's "only" $19 but I don't like giving my money away if I don't have to ;)

What's your time worth? Mine is $2/min.
You've already spent more time typing this then it's worth.

I know, I know ... it's only lunch for my son & I at 5 Guys :), but, a little part of me says there should be something that can be done ... the damn FedEx trups stops at my house every week, sometimes 2/3 times a week. I spend way too much money at Amazon, and feel like I got gypped.

Never mind the chat; I found the same thing for $53.99 at NewEgg ($66.99-$16promo & no tax), so I'll actually make $27 in the end; which should (maybe) pay for all the typing I have done today ... :-P

Until I receive the one from NewEgg, I am using the one from Amazon, and then I'll just return the NewEgg unit unopened back to Amazon.

BTW, I really l like the 5Ghz wifi band

Almost forgot to mention, there was a thing on Newegg about $25 credit for charging $200 on your AMEX for purchase(s) this holiday season. Went and signed up for that :)

I bought 32GB RAM, and the AC1750 for $203, and got an email from AMEX for a $25 credit ... so ultimately (if you only count the $25 discount towards the AC1750), I got it for $28.99 :-P

Guess I should thank Amazon for saving me $52 ....... had I not noticed price, and got miffed at them, I would not have returned to trusty Newegg, saw the $16 promo, nor the $25 AMEX credit

Cyber Monday I will use my wife's AMEX to buy me a good $200+ GPU, and get $25 off it also :p

Cheers!!

I just had the opposite experience. Wanted a 128GB USB drive going for $40 a few days ago but procrastinated and didn't click on the Order button... looked at it again this morning and price had dropped to $30. But now they charge $4 for shipping. Ordered it!! Woo, saved $6.

About 2 weeks after I bought my Sony α6000 from Amazon the price dropped $100, I called and was told that they only would have lowered my price for the first 7 days.

Requested a very small price adjustment ($1.63 x 2) on an item (2of the same item) that has not even shipped yet. Amazon would not adjust. e-mail says:

"We work hard to find the best prices out there and match them for all customers every day. Our prices do change over time. With the exception of TVs, Amazon.com doesn't offer post-purchase adjustments."

Amazon customer service has really come a long way....

While I always like getting the best deal that I can, I have never had a company come back to me after the sale and say, "Since you bought we raised the price 10% and would like for you to pay the difference."

Just sayin'.

Putting it politely, there is some very odd logical reasoning behind some statements in this thread concerning the reality and practice of commerce.
