We have a rare visitor to our area. They get blown over the mountains from California during storms. In non-breeding plumage.

Good for you, John, and a very nice shot. This species used to nest in our bay years ago, but sadly no longer. They really make some cacophonous noises in spring.

Thanks Al. too bad they have moved away from your area for nesting. I have seen the species before in breeding colors but they were so far away that I was only able to get record photo.
