Good reviews and I appreciated your effort. If I don't have the 85L already I would definitely consider the 85A. Love to see how it does with low light focus lock with AI Servo/movements like dance floor like some mentioned.

Btw, when you're done with your testing, can you PM me the price you're selling Sigma for? hahah :-P

Servo is spot on in low light... 1/320 F1.4 and ISO 6400-20,000. I'd say thats low light enough.

and no. Never for sale :)

My experience with the lens using Servo in low light with the 85 Art has not been as promising as yours. I don't find the lens to be very reliable on a moving subject in low light - depending on the speed. When I slap on the 135L, it's spot on. When I used the 85 1.8, it was spot on. It's just a sacrifice of having the large and heavy optics.

That's just my experience in the conditions I shoot in.

Yep that's what worries me, especially for wedding ceremony dances, when I shoot dance recitals I only get one chance to get the big leaps from each routine, cannot afford it to hunt at all.

There's no point having all that light capturing glass if it just hunts all the time.

All you can do is try the lens out and see if it works for you. My copy has been spot on under all conditions thus far and has performed no different than my 135 or any other "always nails it" lens.

Even still I've had the best of the best and they all miss at some point... 70-200 mk2 and 200 F2 IS 400 2.8 etc... they will all miss if you expect them to do the impossible.

I'm lucky... I try whatever I want. I know how lenses are suppose to perform.

It certainly doesn't hunt wildly, it's just not glued on like I've experienced with other lenses. Like I will identify that it's hunting and I'll swap on another lens - usually the 135L - and it will work better. I shoot weddings as well, and the specific moment I'm talking about happened in December on a dimly lit dance floor. My second camera - a 5D3 - and the 24-70 nailed focus. Lifted up the 85A on the 5D4 and it wasn't keeping up exactly that well. After the dance, I switched to the 135L and it worked great in the exact same conditions.

I say this now, but I just shot a runway fashion show on Tuesday and the 85A was spot on all night and the light was really bad there too. LOL So I really think that the conditions can impact the AF performance a little earlier than some lenses, but it's a fast portrait prime and erratic movements in low light is hard for any camera and lens combo...so I can't give the 85A too hard of a time. I love the lens and have zero issues with it as my only 85 shooting a wedding.
