If any UK members fancy a nice Systematic tripod then read on.

As you probably know Gitzo are introducing their version 3 Systematics (new Carbon Exact and sealed leg locks) and it looks like they are dumping some of their version 2 models! Have a look here:

http://www.gitzo.co.uk/tripods-systematic?o=price (external link)

I currently use a 3530LS but my 4542LS arrived yesterday for £374.98 including postage - that's about $473 for our friends across the pond.
That is less than I paid for my 3530LS nearly 9 years ago - and I got it at a VERY reasonable price!

So if any UK photographers here feel that their support is sagging under their longer lenses then now is the time to buy! These are cheaper than the Chinese copies and they are direct from Gitzo!

Some are already sold out so don't delay if you are interested...............

I saw those prices last week. Amazing! Not sure that Gitzo UK will ship to the US though...

It would be worth contacting them - you never know?

If not, do you know anyone in the UK that you could have it shipped to and then forwarded? Also I am not familiar with what happens at US Customs when it gets to your end.

Worth investigating at these prices.

A couple of other members here have ordered successfully, I suppose that (at these prices) Gitzo may struggle to keep up!

I had a look at WEX but the offers, whilst good, are not as good!

Pity as this was a great opportunity to get Gitzo Systematics, for less than the copies - it couldn't last forever - but I was hoping it would last a little longer!

I am happy as I got my GT4542LS for £374.98 (inc postage), but it would have been better if more members here could have benefited.

Ah well - that's life!

I just picked up a Gitzo GT5532S from WEX for £399. Couldn't be happier, such a barging for a quality tripod. I would of never dreamt of owning one at the RRP and being a 5 series too.

Well a 5 series under £400!

Earlier I said "I had a look at WEX but the offers, whilst good, are not as good" I am am happy to eat my own words on that one! I obviously didn't look hard enough!

You have a spectacularly tough and rigid tripod! Now all you need is a lens long enough to test it, nothing current from Canon or Nikon is going to worry that beastie:-)

Happy new tripod!

I just had a look and believe it was the last one so please I snapped it up.
I would love one off those big Canons but way above my pay grade lol. I'm using a sigma 150-600mm on a crop so 960mm. I've been using a Manfrotto 055xpro and thought that would be sturdy enough but wasn't,still flexes too much. The Gitzo is so much stiffer.

Are they? Take your time, save a bit, watch E Bay and used camera dealers like a hawk and you may be lucky. You wouldn't believe how low my income is yet I run a couple of Big Whites, a Small White, two other L lenses + 1 and 7 series cameras. Naturally it takes time to build up your collection but there are bargains out there, especially on the used market. For example my 800 F5.6 L IS and 300 F2.8 L IS were bought used at about 2/3 the going rate for lenses in their (very nice) condition.

Be persistent - it will pay off eventually!;-)a

Thanks!

The problem is that I now have too many Gitzo tripods! It is a nice place to be but one or two will have to go. My GT3320BS (shortie) is like new from lack of use because my dodgy knees do not encourage low level photography. Also my GT 3530LS will be out of a job now that the GT4542LS is here.

I can fully justify 3 Gitzo tripods, 4 series for the big stuff, 2 series for landscape and mobility + my Traveller - but 5 Gitzo tripods is a bit OTT! Looking to sell one or two soon.;-)a
