I am unable to update either of the above units. I have the new G1 software. I have tried to update these on 3 different Windows 10 machines and tried 3 different USB cables on each of them. I get the same error message whatever I do. It's always "Connect failed". Any suggestions?

Doesn't anyone have an idea of what I could do differently or hss encountered this problem and fixed it somehow?

Jim,
I haven't had a chance to update my Sony variant TT685 or XiT devices.
I'm traveling -- give it a try when I get home on the weekend.

The problem you describe is, as I understand it, a USB driver issue.

I am a MAC user, but got a Windows 10 Thinkbook to deal with firmware updates. The few I've had to do with the G1 software have worked with out a problem. Prior to it, I did have some connection problems because drivers where in the wrong place.

Thanks for the response. I believe it most likely is a USB connection or driver issue. I suspect the TT685 and Xits are not being seen by the computer system. However I don't know what to do about that. That's why I tried ore than one C and more than one cable. Turned the devices off as in the instructions, etc. Very frustrating.

I updated the two TT860IIs speedlites I have this afternoon.
I found that I had to have the proper firmware selected before the G1 software would recognize the speedlite once that was accomplished it worked like a charm.
I did one with the battery removed and the speedlite turned off. The second one with the battery installed but turned off.
Both ways worked.

David,
Thanks for the followup. I am sure I had the correct firmware selected prior to attempting the upgrade but I will try it again tomorrow and make sure that was done.

Jim,
You probably did. I thought so too initially then discovered that I was point to a zip file rather than just the firmware file.

It appears that the G1 software, Windows 10 UBS drivers and the other elements have a very precise and peculiar linkage that has to be set just the way some programer determined. One thing out of place and it doesn't work.

Well do not feel alone as I am having issues with trying to update Godox firmware on my new Windows 10 Lenovo Laptop. I just did numerous Phottix firmware updates a couple of nights ago and had no issues.

I have tried everything to get this laptop to work with the G1 software and recognize the attached device. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the G1 software as well as went into the G1 files and reinstalled the USB drivers, all with no luck even though I am getting confirmation that the software and drivers have down loaded successfully. I even uninstalled the antivirus software, that came with the computer, as that is usually an issue I've had on other computers and still no go.

I did figure out that one of the TT685's I was trying to update has a bad USB port because it will not work on either my new laptop or my XP desk top. Of course it was the first one I was trying to update and it left me bewildered why my XP machine was not recognizing it. A little bit of time wasted there but I was able to load the firmware on all the rest of my devices, with my XP machine, no matter which order I hooked up the device or opened the G1 software. I would make sure that the G1 software would connect to the device on the XP machine and then go over to the laptop with the device and cable where I would get connection failure, when I told the software to connect.

So I am at a loss as to what is going on. I had both of my dedicated Photography computers fail in the last few weeks, hence the new laptop but it looks like if my old everyday clunker XP machine fails then I am SOL.

I have never had this particular problem, but have had similar problems with other devices with the same type of USB cord.

The problem I had was in the USB cord I tried to use. I used one that was from a cell phone. What I did not realize is that the cord was not a true USB cord but was a cord that contained only the connections necessary for charging the phone. I am only mentioning this to be sure you are not having the same problem. Just make sure the cord you are using is a full function cord that has all the connections and not one that is from another device that is not capable of performing data transfers.

I am having the same exact connection problem updating my X1R- receiver. Does anyone know if it is possible to obtain the Godox_USB driver that appears to be required for a connection either from Godox directly or by someone has has updated successfully?

I am also trying to update the firmware on the X1-T trigger without any success. I followed the instruction on the following link, but keep getting connect fail like the OP did. After almost 4 years, I m curious if anyone has found a solution? I m using a windows 10 laptop, have successfully installed the G1 software without any errors. When I connect the X1-T trigger to the laptop, there were no indication that windows was able to recognize it - no display on the trigger, no new device found etc.. Really don't want to update anything but I m 10+ versions behind.

Hi all,

I had similar issue but resolved after connecting in USB 2.0 port.

Based on my experience it could be due to two reasons

* USB Cable issue
* USB Port

Suggest to try with different cable or port. It didnt work with USB 3.0 and make sure to reboot the machine after drivers & upgrade software installation.
