7D II has been ordered!!!

Yday it was on sale for $1699 CAN, this morning, $1499CAN including shipping!!!!

Now the search for a good deal on the 2.8 II...

I have also been eyeing the Peak Design straps - I currently have a Tamrac Neoprene one with quick release clasps - have had it for eons and love it - I'm worried that the nylon on the PD may not be as comfortable as my old Tamrac strap...

I may list the 100 (it's the non-L btw) for a relatively high price and see what happens. But there are a few going for around $500-550 used in kijiji locally - who knows what they actually sell for...

I have a photographic memory, just wish I'd remember to take the lens cap off more often!
1DXII - Canon 300 2.8 IS, 100-400 II, 70-200/2.8 II, 24-70 2.8 II, 85 1.8 - 1.4x II - F-Stop Lotus Backpack - ThinkTank Retrospective 20 & Speed Racer V2 - Peak Design Slide Flickr Collection (external link)

Off topic, but how do you like the Peak Designs strap? Have you had any issues with the metal buckle contacting and damaging camera/lens? I had the strap in my hand to buy a few weeks ago, but held off.

Dang sorry i didnt reply sooner, So far so good and Luna has yet to destroy it on me, but I just got it a month or two back when i bought the 7DII

Funny thing that was my old strap! Mine however the quick release buckle..things..fabric had begun to give out (it was dangerously frayed and thin), which is why I bought the Peak Design strap for my 7DII. the Peak Design is far more comfortable to me, much better at cushioning the weight on my 150-600 and 70-200

Missed out on the deal of the year - someone had a virtually brand new 70-200 2.8 IS mark II for $1275CAN - unfortunately, they were 1.5 hours away and sold it just as I was leaving to get it!!! grrrrr...

I may finally be upgrading my (beloved) 40D for a 7DII.

I shoot a lot of sports / kids / activities both indoors and out.
Summary of most common sports / subjects I shoot:

Volleyball, basketball, Wakeboarding, Downhill skiing, karate, dogs, kids, kids with dogs.

For lenses, I'm thinking about getting the 70-200 2.8 IS II - especially since I will be shooting indoor volleyball and basketball in relatively poorly lit gyms.

With the huge ISO range in the 7DII would the (much cheaper) F4IS be as versatile as the 2.8 (for those that shoot a lot of sports)?

IF I go with the 2.8IS, I would of course sell my old F4 (non-IS) and then should I sell my Canon 100 2.8 macro?

The 100 is a sharp lens, but I imagine the 70-200 would be every bit as sharp and then some and also have IS. I don't really shoot much macro stuff anymore, had it mainly for clinical work and the pocket digital cameras are much more versatile for my needs. Would lighten my bag and also give me more funds for the trade up too!

So, looking for speed, low light, overall versatility as well as downsizing the lens collection. I'm not afraid of a heavy lens, but the wife may not appreciate it, but it'll help build up her biceps!! :)
Thanks for any insight and experiences!

I have a 7D Mark II and a 70-200 f/4L IS USM. Its a great combination. Super sharp, fast accurate AF and small enough and light enough to use hand held all day. But, If my goal was to shoot indoor sports I would have gotten the 70-200 f/2.8L IS USM II. As much as I love my camera/lens combination outdoors, I think for indoor sports arena shooting you will find the extra stop of light and the thinner DoF not just useful but almost a requirement.

I did it!!!! Finally found a 70-200 2.8II in my price range!! Picked it up last night.
Yup, that thing is a beast!

Had to do some major camera bag reorganization.

Off-Trail2 - won't fit with 7D2 attached so that bag has to go.
Crumpler 6MDH - fit in but not mounted - may keep as a backup - it really is amazing how much stuff you can fit in that one (can get the 70-200, flash, 10-22 and 100 macro along with gripped 7D2 mounted with 17-50).
Tamrac Evolution 8 - no problemo - 70-200 mounted and unmounted has lot of space - that one is a keeper - just really big bag!

On order: Tamrac Velocity 8X - 95% of the time I only carry the 70-200 and 17-50 with me.

Good choice on the velocity bag; I have the 9x, and it's my primary walk-around bag for non-travel walk around use. The 70-200 2.8 II fits nicely!

Did you decide to keep the 100 macro then?

I listed it and initially didn't get any bites then sold it for asking price ($450) so figured if I do go back to macro I can pick one up for same of less.
Besides with the 2.8 in the bag I need as much weight savings as possible!

since you shoot indoor sports, and you are committed to the crop sensor, you might be the perfect candidate for the Sigma 50-100 F1.8 - (i.e. you are going to use fast enough SS that IS isn't required and that extra 1 1/3rd stop of light will be very useful)

Hockey and wedding photographer. Favourite camera / lens combos: a 1DX II with a Tamron 45 1.8 VC, an A7Rii with a Canon 24-70F2.8L II, and a 5DSR with a Tamron 85 1.8 VC. Every lens I own I strongly recommend [Canon (35Lii, 100L Macro, 24-70F2.8ii, 70-200F2.8ii, 100-400Lii), Tamron (45 1.8, 85 1.8), Sigma 24-105]. If there are better lenses out there let me know because I haven't found them.

Thanks for the tip on the lens - I hadn't come across that one - looks like they are sometimes sold as a set with the 18-35 lens.
Great, need a bigger camera case again! :)
