Okay, I need some proof (if there is any) as to why upgrading to a T5i is a good idea. I have two Canon T2i's, one is pretty much a backup but I've used it a few times. I am looking to upgrade to a used T5i (I cannot afford a new one), so I am selling my T2i with the kit lens (I never use it, I love my Tamron 18-270mm lens) and a super wide angle lens that I also don't use and it doesn't even fit on my Tamron lens anyways.
I need to know some really good points as to why it's a good idea to upgrade, so I can shut my husband up. I like that the T5i has an ISO that can go up to 12800, as my main interests are nature, wildlife and experimentation, (getting family and friends to help me build my portfolio for portraits is difficult for me....... they're not very encouraging).
So, if anybody has experience with these two cameras, please give me the pros and cons.

I usually use this web site to compare camera models http://snapsort.com …on_EOS_Rebel_T2i/detailed (external link) However, they don't have the T5i, which is weird. Doing a Google search of these two cameras should give you some good articles to read and compare.

I just purchased the T6i, refurbished from Canon. It is way more advanced than the T1i I started out with in 2009. Canon does have some excellent pricing right now on the refurbished T5i as well, you might want to check it out.

Not sure what your budget is, but the T6i really is a step up, more megapixels, higher color depth and dynamic range, more FPS. I think the T2i and T5i are pretty similar in each category.

Upgrading your camera with the newer STM lens will also be an improvement.

Good luck with your decision.

The T2i was a large step up from the T1i, so it may not be that huge of a difference than the T5i? The T2i was of the same era as the 7d, 60d.

You say the T5's ISO goes up to 12800. You should be more concerned about the usable ISO. I have a T4i, and anything over ISO400 gets pretty noisy. My 6D is another animal altogether. I've gotten usable shots at ISO8000 with that. Why is it that you are looking to upgrade?

Yeah, I thought on it quite a bit and decided I'm going to wait until next year, save up some more money and get the T6i. The T5i really isn't much different from the T2i other than ISO while I like that the T6i has 24.2 megapixels and more ISO I believe.
So, yeah I'm just going to wait and save up the cash for a T6i.
On cameras, I don't suppose there's a big difference between new, used and refurbished? As long as the used is in good shape and works like new, while the refurbished is pretty much new?
Otherwise, I'll just keep my eyes peeled for which ever one shows up cheaper, whether on Ebay, Amazon or wherever I see it.

We posted at almost the same time. Please read the post above your last one to see my comments on ISO.

The 6d isn't 4 stops better than your rebel. You just haven't dialed in the rebel or aren't exposing images like you are with the 6d. 2 stops would maybe be realized.

Well, I did use different lenses with the T4i, but I wouldn't think they would introduce "noise". I did not conduct any test using the same exposures settings, etc. Just going from my experience.

The main point though, was for the original poster to not buy a camera because "the ISO goes to 12800". Thats like buying a car because it goes 200mph, even though you can't drive it more than 60mph.

Usable ISO is more important than the actual max ISO the camera is rated for.

Well..... first reason is I have a disorder... that normally is through buying new pairs of running shoes or clothing.... but since I have too much of that right now, I'm feeling the urge to buy or upgrade something else :lol::lol::lol::lol:
But The T2i was my very first DLSR which I bought back in 2009 and currently have two of them, but I secretly want a T6i.
The T6i has 24.2 MP while the T2i has only 18 MP.
But, mainly it's my disorder :-D:-D:-D:-D:-D

First, speak english stupid to me :-D Is 6d T6i?
And does that link help further explain the dialing of the exposure?

A T4i owner here. You won't gain much over the T2i. I came all the way up from the XSi and noticed a pretty nice improvement in iso performance, plus I gained video capability, so it was worth it. I just upgraded to the 5D3 (refurbished $1899 black Friday deal), which of course, is full frame. This was a nice jump up from my T4i IMHO. You just won't gain that much with your suggested upgrade. Get a piece of big girl glass for that T2i. I love my used 70-200 f4L. Sharp as hell. Would probably love the 2.8 with IS even more. Good glass gave me a noticeable improvement in image quality.

BTW, I was born in Jeffersonville, and been all through S Indiana. Many pretty areas down through Corydon and to Jasper area.

1) You have to look in the upper right of my reply to see who I am replying to. ;)
2) That link allows many different comparisons of different cameras.

Also the T2i should give you great results at 6400, and with diligence and good post processing, decent results at 12800.

This may help: https://photography-on-the.net …/showthread.php?t=1079217

Or you could save up for a 5D4 once the prices come down (or the 5D3, it isn't too far off). ISO 25600 is very, very usable.

Just to clear things up for the original poster, the Canon 6D is NOT the T6i. It is in Canons more professional line and is a full frame camera. Wonderful camera and I am very happy with it. But I still like my T4i. My wife shoots with it, usually with a 100-400L version 1 lens.

I'm not familiar with the 5D4, is there another title/name for that?
Yeah, Southern Indiana has some pretty spots, and some really great areas if you know where to look. Finding the perfect weekend and a babysitter for my 4 year old is the tough part, but I just recently purchased a polarizer(sp) and a Neutral Density Filter which I haven't gotten in the mail yet but am hoping to get more creative with landscapes.

When they say 5D4, they mean 5D mark iv. It is the latest version of the 5D mark (X) line of full frame cameras and cost ~ $3,500.

In my opinion, you should save the $400-$500 and put it towards a Canon 6D. You can find these full frames for around $800 and $1200 used and new respectively.
