7dmk2 Firmware Update?

After reading another thread I decided to check the firware version of my 7dmk2. It is 1.0.2.

So far I have not had any focus issues (only three lenses I use are the 16-35 f4 L, 70-200 f2.8 L non-IS version and a 50mm 1.8 STM).

Is it worth it to do a firmware upgrade? Are there any improvements other than the focusing issues? Again, (knock on wood) my 7dmk2 has been working great so far. Images are sharp, I have been able to capture birds in flight without a problem, etc.

I haven't upgraded mine from there. I even own the 17-55 that could be improved but I've heard of other problems so just stuck with what I have. It works well enough that I haven't bothered. It may be different if some new, usable features were added, but so far it's been mostly lens focusing updates but most shots are already well focused.

my gear: T4i - EF-s 17-55, Ef-s 55-250 is stm, EF-S 10-22 usm, ef 100mm 2.8 macro

Are you saying that you've heard of people having problems after an update ? If so can you explain what and where.

It is widely believed that Canon incorporate software tweaks additional to the publicised improvements with each update, I don't know if this is true.

I have always update the firmware in all my Canon bodies whether I need to or not, it is such an easy trouble free process that I can't understand why anyone wouldn't bother.

Some in the 7dmkII focus issues thread and 7dmkII thread posted problems focusing with the 100-400mkII after update 1.0.5 which was supposed to fix the 17-55 focusing errors. I either don't have those problems or I'm not critical enough to notice so I skipped that update to avoid trading one problem for another.

None of the later updates added anything new so why fix something that's not broken. Adding wifi would be nice and I may get that.

Just an FYI. I loaded version 1.1.0 some time ago. Just because I could and it is easy. My most used lens is the EF 100-400 Mark II. So far I have experienced no problems. I don't use Wi-Fi so that has not been an issue. My feeling is this is a great camera and I want to keep it as up to date as possible as long as possible.

Probably a dumb question, but if I were to update the firmware would I be able to skip all previous updates and go directly for the latest firmware update?

You don't have to update the firmware, but it makes sense to use the latest version to get the best out of your camera. I'm on 1.1.0 and trouble-free.
