So, I have this scanner, downloaded the latest 64 bit drivers for it and it still will not work on my Windows 7 64bit computer... Are these scanners incompatible with Windows 7 64 bit?

I've tried different USB ports (USB 2.0 and 3.0) and still no go.

I've even tried using the software that came with it as well as Photoshop. Also, I read online that IrfanView would work as well... Nope!

There should be no issue with the LIDE on Win7...I have an older scanner, the 8800F, and it is operating fine with Win7 64-bit Home and the supplied MP Navigator. I had it originally operating with WinXP, then swithed to Win7 when I purchased a newer PC. Have you tried to get appropriate driver software via the Canon website?

Exactly what driver did you download and install. According to the Canon website they don't have a drive for Windows 7 (64 bit) although that is specifically for the LiDE 20.

Is this a new (to you) scanner. There are reports that drivers/software won't install properly if the carriage is still locked for shipment.

You might also go to http://www.tomshardware.com …-lide-doesnt-work-windows (external link) and scroll down to the input by eden888Sep 13, 2012, 11:21 AM. It seems to be one of the few reports of a fix that works.

I've got the 100. Windows update downloaded it and I manually downloaded the file from the Canon website. I'm not at my computer at the moment. I tried it on another computer that is running Linux Mint 8. I found out they stopped supporting that version in 2011. Nothing works right on that OS. I'll have to put the latest on there and see if that works.

Question, when I plug it into a USB port should the lamp come on for a moment? My old scanner would do that. Maybe there is something wrong with the scanner...

Windows recognized it as a CanoScan LiDE 100... I'm assuming that it is sending the right data to the computer which identifies it. So it should be working.

Was it the twain compliant driver? If not give it a try as I think the CanoScan 100 is only twain compliant. Canon has it at http://support-in.canon-asia.com …nts/IN/EN/0100133801.html (external link).

When you install, have the scanner powered off, only turn it on when prompted of when the process is completed.

So, this is what I get.

After uninstalling the driver I tried installing the one from the link above but it says it only works with 32 bit Windows. So I reinstalled the one I downloaded last night.

This is what I saw last night and just now when I re installed it.

I can't scan anything with Photoshop. It gives me a WIA error. When I try to use the software that came with the scanner I get this...

I'm still thinking it's a bad scanner.

And yes, it is plugged into a USB Port. I've tried both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 with the same results.

Give https://www.usa.canon.com …QH8HIC0L88RB0AMD0F1Q42K25 (external link) a try (if you haven't already). It is a Win 7 64 bit driver specifically for the Lide 100. I would try to uninstall any existing drivers unique to the device before trying the new one.

Yup I tried that one last night. And I did uninstall the other drivers first. It just lind of sat there for about an hour trying to initialize the scanner.

In an earlier post I mentioned eden888 and that person had similar issues with the European driver, pointing to a link for the USA driver. The link I supplied seemed to be correct, but was sourced from Asia. Maybe go to https://www.usa.canon.com …/English/0100131601EN.htm (external link) which is specifically the USA Canon website.

Perhaps these geographically differing drivers conflicts with some PC setting that is also geographically related.

Not much involved so give the USA driver a shot. Again, I recommended you uninstall the previous driver selection.
