Can we make pictures a requirement for the For Sale marketplace posts?
It unbelievable we don't have this as a rule on a photography forum.

Every other forums I'm on(non photo related) mandates you post pictures in the first post.

+1 on that.

Yeah I agree. It's ridiculous that there are a lot of for sale threads that never have pics at all

This is the mantra I live by. I agree with the other posters that pictures should be in every for-sale thread. So if a thread does not include any, I let my money do the talking, simply pass it by and don't give it a second look.

.

I guess my opinion differs from that of the majority.

I have never understood why people ask for photos of the gear for sale. We all know what a Canon 5D Mark 2 looks like. We all know what a 70-200 IS v1 looks like, what a 24-105 v1 looks like, etc, etc, etc.

For me, there's no need to see pics, as the internals are what matter - circuitboards, AF chassis, etc. And no pic is going to show you the condition of the internals, whether it be bodies or lenses. And it doesn't matter what the outside looks like - they are all the same, excepting cosmetic issues that may be on the surface......but cosmetic issues don't have any effect on the quality of the photos that can be taken with the gear, so that means that cosmetic issues just aren't important.

I kind of like the way used bodies and lenses are sold on eBay - most sellers use a stock image of the model they're selling - a stock image that they pulled off of the 'net. Shows what the lens or body looks like, with no need to show the actual lens or body that is being sold.

I only buy used gear, and I never even bother looking at the photos in the ads of the items I buy, because I don't care what they look like.

.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

Wholeheartedly agree. 99% of what matters is the guts (workings) of the camera, none of which an exterior picture will show / demonstrate. Pictures of gear: a ridiculous request. Solves nothing.

I am looking at two cameras for sale. Both claim 80,000 shots. Both are the same price. One looks pristine. One looks repeatedly rode hard and put away wet. Which one do I buy?

I agree. On ebay, I'd want to see at least a image of the serial #. In POTN, in a special case, # of threads started & some good feedback would work.

It honestly doesn't make any difference. At least to me it doesn't. If I bought the one that looks pristine, within a couple of months it would look exactly like the other one - well worn and ridden hard......so what difference does it make? Plus, exterior (surface) condition is NOT an indicator of what shape the "guts" are in.

not sure what ebay you're looking at, i'd say 99% of used postings include a picture of the actual item for sale...the new postings will have a stock picture...but used is always showing actual item

I take pictures of everything that I sell whether it's photography related or not. Pictures tell a lot about what your selling. They help sell.
