Congrats! I think they sold out in 5 minutes. I'm thinking of getting one but I have to wait until after Christmas. When the alert came today from Canon Price Watch, I was like, "Noooooo!"

Thanks! I was about 45 minutes behind the Canon Price Watch (CPW) email, and was surprised there were 10 left when I posted. I've been wanting to get this refurb for 5-6 months, finally the timing was right. CPW sent an email today with only 1 available:!:

Steve

Funny.... I just checked the Refurb price and was shocked.... I won't have the cash until sometime in Jan. so I hope they have another sale.

That's a screaming price.... makes me wonder if there is something to the rumor of a new 70-200 on the horizon. Probably not.

I think I've finally given up on the 70-200 range. I find them to be boring otherwise though this is a great deal but not the best deal.

it's a pretty darn good deal, but on the used market, you can find them for 1600. Hell, I think that recent printer deal got pretty darn close as well.

1400 out the door is fantastic at this point, but 1600 or there abouts, great, but not the best.

Well for me it would of been 1545 out the door after tax. So... not a great deal but good deal. I've seen these things on the used market flawless condition for 1450-1550 all day long so no rush for me to jump on that bandwagon

but I'm a guy who is completely fine buying used too. I've owned every 70-200 darn near and once you get introduced to 300 2.8 or 200/2 or 85 1.4 or 135/2 you tend to find the 70-200s boring. Just my take... not trying to push that onto others.

I hear ya... I rock the f4 for general use and 85/100/135 primes for portraits and such. I find this a bit more manageable than the massive f2.8.
I've used that lens... I love that lens... but it's not for me.

hehe, I'm the same, have a fast 24,35,50,85,100,135, and 200

at the same time, I'm not opposed to fast 2.8 zooms, however their usage would be very limited. Was considering the tamron 70-200 just to have something or just the 70-200 non IS (I can rely on the IBIS and save money). Just not the biggest priority to have 2.8 zooms, but I can see the appeal. No nonsense, good enough, low compromise lenses. I still keep the 24-70ii for that reason, not really burning a hole in my photography budget, so no harm done. I do tend to use slower zooms if I'm going to be strobing/landscapes/travel.

will eventually get another 70-200 f2.8, I'm sure of it. I'm more about owning all I can own than selling off these days, I think that satisfies my need for gear better. I hate the constant chase of gear, so I'll just own them all, slowly but surely.

I'm still trying to decide between the f/4 and f/2.8 II. Neither the weight nor the cost bother me.... I think I'd like the pop a f/2.8 lens can provide. Both have many fans so either one would do. I will be using it on a 1D IV so higher ISOs could be a factor.

I've pretty much made up my mind to buy a refurb. I like the pricing and the one year warranty.

If weight and cost doesn't matter, then 2.8 every time, simple.
