I personally believe SEO is the only advertising you need. I have now stopped advertising on easy weddings, AIPP, gumtree etc and focus purely on my google rankings with the help of an SEO company.

How many of you spend time doing your own SEO and what do you find works best for you? Do you have a dedicated SEO company to help you get better rankings or do you use other mediums in which to advertise. Does anyone still go to bridal shows and if so, how do you find that works for your business?

I would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this.

I just followed basic tips on SEO websites and my website and facebook page are the second and third listing in my city for my target key words.

For me:

- Business name includes two key search words: Photography and my City
- Pages are named logically - With descriptions that have all the key search words
(I'm an automotive photographer, however I realised that most clients search for "car photographer" or "Motorcycle photographer", so I have stopped using Automotive photographer so much on my site.)
- Content of my pages is gently sprinkled with key search words in regular sentences
- Images are (mostly) named using key search words, and described properly
- Links; I have internal and external links throughout the site
- Blog - updated fairly regularly (need to do this more), short posts with well named images, sprinkled with key words and links to social media pages

You may want to read my SEO for the Photographer link in my signature. Looks like your SEO company hasn't even added some of your keywords on your <title> element or page title.

Ah, you might want to change your advice since Google has for years now not used the keyword meta tag in ranking.

Speaking of SEO, just curious:

Who uses Wordpress (hosted install, not website) and the themes and plugins that are oriented toward SEO?

So right. My brain must have been on strike. You even clearly say "The Keyword Metadata Tag
Years ago it was helpful, but now it doesn’t help. Google stopped using them several years ago."

I use the self-hosted version of WordPress. I use a free theme to start with and then created a child theme to change colors etc. I just use Yoast's plugin so I can edit my page's title, description metadata and follow/nofollow and that's it. I don't worry or care about there red/yellow/green indications.

I changed to Wordpress about a year ago. I orginally used wix.com which was terrible. I use Yoast SEO which is great
