50mm 1.2L or 16-35mm 2.8L?

So, my partner and I tend to shoot weddings, families, couples, etc... I have a 7D and a 6D with a 70-200 2.8 and 24-70 2.8 as my staples. She has a 70D and 5Dm3 with the same staple lenses. We are investing in some primes, and she recently got a 50mm 1.2L..... I was going to do the same, but do you think I should vary our lenses? I was thinking 16-35 but I love the fast speeds and depth of field when it comes to primes.

So, what would you recommend? The 50mm? 16-35? 35? Thanks!

Do they have to be L's? How about 35 f2 and 85 1.8 instead? You can get them both.

Just curious why you would want the same lenses as your partner... buy something they don't have and share. As a team you then have more choices.

Give what you shoot, surely a 135L or 85L would be a no-brainer?

Failing that the Sigma 50 art is superior to the 50L in many regards, and much cheaper to boot.

Do you find yourself needing to go wider than 24mm very often?

I'd argue that an 85L would be a poor choice at a wedding.

But fine for couples, families & portraits, depends on the OP's ratio of weddings to other work

New 24L and 35Ls are the same price as a 16-35L iii. Or a set of used 24, 35, and 85 L's would be my choice. Or do you need the 16mm end of the zoom?

If you can share I think you should get something different.
Since you like fast class and have 24mm covered, how about the sigma 20mm f1.4? Or get something in the 85mm range?

I love the fast speed & bokeh of primes too (I started with all primes and still I have more than zooms).
But for my first weddingshoot I used a 24-70 2.8 (sold my 35 1.4 Art) & 70-200 2.8L II like most.

Weddings are timed & stressy, you can get them out for the bridal or couple shoot (if you have time).
I chose 3 great locations and managed fine with both zooms.

Sigma 50 1.4 Art is even better than the 50L and if you need wide I bought a Tokina 17 3.5 ATX-Pro for only 250 on Ebay (discontinued but perfect lens)!
I had the 16-35 2.8L I, II and the F4L IS but sold them as I like to work with light, compact, sharp & cheaper primes.

For couples, models,... you have all the time in the world to switch primes
